Sampled my 1st Moscatel Preto fig after growing it for 4 years. It had taken tree that long to give me my 1st sample
due to 1st year die back and sharing cuttings with friends. The wait is worth waiting as it is an awesome tasting fig.
Very good sweetness level and pronounced figgy taste. I should be able to enjoy a few more of its figs. Thanks goes
to Nelson for sharing this variety.

Paul glad you liked it does improve with age last years figs were extremely good.

Nelson, this fig is indeed awesome. It is hard to find another fig that would rival its quality. I hope it is a productive
variety. High quality fig like this makes it easier for me to weed out other varieties. As a benchmark against other high
quality variants like H.Chicago(Mt Etna types), RdB, Gino etc, I would prefer Moscatel Preto's taste.

Very nice fig.
I brought in a new Moscatel Preto tree 'in ground' last year.
For some reason it was much stressed, produced just one fig and looks like to go dormant ahead of time. Doing everything to make it 'happier' and ready for next season.

Francisco this fig came from Porto I'm not sure why they call it that up north because moscatel preto and bêbera preta are generally the same this is a different fig and not inferior in anyway. 

Paul it is very productive for me and if ripened during hot dry weather it is among the best figs I have tasted.

I probably did not look in detail to your pictures.
You right there are some confusion on Moscatel and Beberas.. But I think the fig you show looks very much a Bebera Branca, discounting the cultivation details of growing in pot, climate, fertilizers, etc..

The fellows in the North (Porto) do have their own fig 'Bibles' and may call different names..
Growing in ground, given the right ammount of fertilizer, water, and above all Sun, this BBranca looks very much like the fig shown on this thread..

Look at the skin cracks, colors and that greenish circle around the neck..
I did not show the leaves but the predominant type is average to big size and 5 deep lobes.

The pulp shall have to be different as conditions are much far apart..

It can be a huge fig.. a friend picked up one recently very close to 200 gr. (195) but they are average in the 90 to 100+ gr.

@ Nelson - It is an awesome tasting fig and by far the best tasting main crop fig this season. Fortunately MP ripen during a stretch
of hot weather. I have a few more to go. Saving those for the wife who is away. Weather forecast for the coming week is on the
cooler side. Likely I will move plant into greenhouse. I have another of your fig that has turned dark. It is Norella. I should be sampling
this one sometime Tuesday/Wednesday. BTW, do you get any brebas from your Moscatel Preto ?

Paul , my Moscatel Preto is doing amazing. I have one cutting that made it. Once it's ready, I'll distribute it here in south of the border.

Norella is by far my best mt etna type fig as much as I like the colasanti dark the norella is by far superior in taste. Ate 2 dozen with my daughter today she loves them.

St Rita is part of Mt Etna group of figs ?

Have you tried Norella in ground yet Nelson?  My Colisanti Dark is missing the sweetness this year compared to last year but it has a nice berry taste and texture, but it had very little die back last winter and likes to produce even though its only about 2/3 full sun depending on the time of year.

Hi James, no I have not planted Norella inground but might eventually. I too have found colasanti dark has not been as sweet as other years this darn weather doesn't help either but Norella has been outstanding although they are a tad smaller than colasanti dark in size but make up in flavor.
