my mulberry are laso not rooting yet. even tried to introduce more heat to the rooting chamber by putting it outside in a closed box exposed to some sun.
they have developed leaves and fruit buds but no roots.
maybe maybe initials buds.

i am holding fingers for us with them mulberries.

I've never had luck rooting mulberries, they leaf out and poop out. I ordered seedlings in bulk from Lawyer Nursery and I plan on grafting them. Better luck that way for me.

Thanks Pete keep them pictures coming as they all hopefully progress. ; )

people around here in forums say its easy but probably not as easy as figs.

anyhow if somthing positive happens i will post it.

Pete,

How many beers did it take did you take down?

Pete...looking good...I got the spring fever bug too (almost 60* today)... put all my potted figs outside for some sunshine...planted another Ischia Green in the ground (my wife loves that variety)...also planted a Panachee in a 35gal. self watering pot(about the size of 1/2 wooden barrel)...cleaned out my storage shed, and put all the lawn furniture on the deck...wheeew...tomorrow is supposed to be in the 60's too...yippeee !!

Pete,

Are you talking hardy kiwi cuttings or established plants? And if you are talking plants, do you grow your hardy kiwis in containers?

Last year was my first year with hardy kiwis. I planted in ground a Ana, Ken's red, and a male. The male croaked in the heat of the summer. The Ana and Ken's struggled but made it, we'll shall soon see how they faired the winter. I looked at Ken's for a bit the other day, what was sticking above the snow appeared to be mostly dead.

they hardy kiwis are hardwood cuttings. they are all callused and putting out buds right now in a baggie. i let all of them in the bag. Meader Male, Ana, Issai. i got something like 5 different hardy kiwi last fall, and i neglected them and they all died. so i'm hoping these will do.

rafed :) no beer in few weeks. i need to catch up! too many things going on now days for me to enjoy few pints. i'm running out of alcohol in my blood.. lol

oh.. these are duplicates. not sure what i'm going to do with them. one of them is promised to a member. other 14.. i'll have to see.

I HAVE hardy  kiwi Assisi ? ji will tryb and root cuttings. BULLET08  a guy in my homebrew club is a PIPER  ...........do yo make beer ?

Hady kiwis don't root well from hardwood. I start them in summer.
The mulberry Re difficult to root, I get one out of 10 to root. Grafting or air layering is the way to go.

I am jealous, looking good

well.. if they root, great. if they don't.. oh well :) i still have figs to enjoy.

Has anyone tried air layering the kiwis?

i read that you can air layer the kiwis. put on of the vine under the ground and it should root during the growing season, and you can cut them later. reading further on the kiwi propagation, it seems without rooting hormone, it's really ard to root with dormant cuttings. even if they root, they have good chance or rotting.

suggestions i have read is, let the dormant cutting put out the top and when the top is about 2 inches log, cut the new growth and about 1" of the dorman cutting and plant those into soil mix.

I put all the plants outside yesterday. No shuffle. They will stay out (too much labor to return them to the garage for a night). So far, so good. Looks like I only may have lost a single gallon container. I've got brebas and leaves popping everywhere. Even if the temps dip a bit, they are located on a cement slab that gets heated all day by the sun. I am confident the radiant heat will carry them through. Besides, I want the strong ones that can take a little adversity. I have no time for 20-gallon orchids.

Looking good, Pete.

moved rest of the mulberries and kiwis to the humidity bin today. they are all heavily callused, but not roots on any of them they. they are breaking bud and putting out the leaves. we'll see what happens to them in a month or two.

on the other hand, rest of the 15 figs are suffering in the humidity bin. now the outside temp is rising and the room is getting hot. the leave are drooping. they are at a point where they are drawing up more water also. gave them some water to perk them up. need to move few more before they die on me.
