Moving Day!!!

If you've read my posts about figging over the last few years, you may remember that it has not been an easy road. I caught the fever early, and because I'm a landscaper I have access to supplies. That and a little bit of knowledge is dangerous when figging. The first winter I built a Harbor Freight Greenhouse that completely collapsed and the cold then killed most of my Figs. Last winter I used a heater and did not water the Figs. Another disastrous winter. This winter I completely insulated the greenhouse making it an Igloo Cooler and did not heat at all. I watered just once in January and the results could not have been better. Green stems all the way to the tips!!! Finally!!! I think we're in for a great year!!! I did not count the pots but all combined I'm pushing 250 varieties or so.

Aaron, you have what's called FIG FEVER LOL

I had about 100 fig trees a couple years ago but had to decide between that and my wife.  So now I'm down to about 30.  Hopefully it was the right call ;)

Nice, good luck this season! I'm hoping it's a good summer in NJ.

Hope this year will brings you many figs and strong growth. That's amazing you have over 250. Good luck and may your figs grow well.

Aaron, Its great to know that things are going well for you. Yes, I recall when you posted about the colkapse. In life, we all run into "dry patches" at one time or another.

Wow, 250?!!!! How wonderful! You will be rewarded for your patience and hard work. And, itlooks like you have a nice size yard. Post updates when you can again and, thanks for sharing your success with us.

Looking good, Aaron!  You're going to be swimming in figs this year :)

What size tree pots are you using in the first pic?

Thanks for all the well wishes and encouragement. I think this is going to be a great year. They are 4x4x9" Stuewe pots. They are really great. Some people stick the cutting in the soil a few inches and use a humidity dome. I stck the cutting 80-100% in the soil with no dome. 90% success.

Glad to hear things worked out this year! Lets hope for some nice weather this summer :)

Sometimes we learn more from our failures than our successes.  Hope you have such an abundance of figs this season that you are in a quandary on which way to preserve them!

Amazing! I can't even wrap my mind around caring for that many potted figs. They're looking great. The igloo cooler seems to have worked beautifully. Really cool idea.

Looking really nice Aaron, good luck this season.
Your plants look just right to go out. For some reason most of my plants leafed out exceptionally early.
Way too much effort keeping them going for the last month or so.
Good Luck

Nice going, Aaron. 250!?! There's an word for that...
Best wishes for your growing season, it will be fun to see what all your found 'unks' produce!

I also think this is a lot better than using a humidity dome.  No mold with this method.  If they made clear pots I'd use these.  :)

reminds me of the story about the 3 little pigs. And mother nature is your big bad wolf =)

Nice that you confess of failures.. I had bad year or two also and didnt water properly .

Potts need frequent watering and not deep watering.
I did the opposite and this year have many tree with die back branches.

These black pots lose water so fast i mulch alot now and water daily.
