Moving figs to my shade house

I'll be taking a trip out of the country soon so I've moved most of my figs into my shade house since my dad (almost 89) will be watering them for me for about five of the days I'm gone and want to make it easier and less stressful on plants if it gets very hot while I'm gone.  Here is a photo of most of my potted plants now:

Oh, there's one plumeria and four citrus rootstocks on the right side that are hanging out with the figs.

Some nice looking figs there.

Impressive my friend. I love to see people with oceans of pots, it makes me feel less insane! :)

Nice bananas

wow! you got a lot of figs

You're gonna need a bigger shade house  :)

Enjoy your trip!

Nice shade house.  Nice bunch of figs and a great idea to help out dad while he helps you out.

My dad has said many times in the past 6-7 months that I'm crazy.  He grew commodity-type crops (grain corn, wheat, canning tomatoes) and was quite successful but I get bored with stuff like that.  He has also said that I would have got along great with his father if he was around. ;)

The largest of these will get planted in the ground in about a month.  I'll probably end up with about 3 rows of 60 trees, 12' x 16' spacing.  I know that I need to expand my planting of some of the best varieties for commercial prospects but can't resist adding another great-looking fig.  I have no desire to have several hundred varieties like some members, though.  My brain can't keep track of that much.

  Hi harvey,
I love seeing all those potted figs. Can you tell me what sized pots those are? I'm not good about oerspective,  I was thinking to go up from 1 gal to 3 gal, but yours seem larger.

Soni

Great shade house.

Hi Soni,

The figs are mostly in 1 gallon and 5 gallon pots.  I had a couple hundred 5 gallon pots already on hand so I used them but I only filled them up about 2/3 of the way with potting soil.  If I had 3 gallon pots, I would have used them but this works well, especially since it makes watering easier (lots of room at top of pot to add water from garden hose).
