Moving the fig trees outside

I moved the fig trees outside since the forecast was for heavy rain and the night time temps are above freezing.

You NorEast fig guys are hardcore! I respect that :-)

Tom, do you heat that shed and if so, how?

Still no signs of green leaves here

I would have waited until the rain stopped :-)

Nice work Tom!

Hey Tom

Whats your thoughts on using 5gal white buckets for figs, ever tried them?

That's what I was going to do with mine. At least for this first year.

5-gallon buckets IMO may be the best fig container there is. Nothing is stronger and more durable. Just be sure to look underneath to check that it's proper number 2 HDPE.

This is the best food grade bucket. If you have a place in your area that sells grape juice for wine making you're in luck. The buckets they use for the juice are closer to 6 gallon and are generally of super quality.... I use buckets from Magnotta wine here in Canada. I seem to have a stock-pile of these buckets... Can't imagine why. ;-)   cin-cin!

Already in the process. And they are number 2 .

Thanks Joe

They really are the best container for their size. The only downside is that they don't look great.. (according to my wife). I'm experimenting with using some reclaimed hardwood from pallets to build a barrel around the buckets. Pretty easy and you can stain them. If you take some "all-round" strapping you can make a sheet that easily wraps around a bucket.
