Moving time?

For those of us with cold weather/frosts coming up, when do you move your figs indoors/unheated garages/etc?

Should I wait till the leaves drop?

Gonna hit 39/40 tonight...

Jackster ,
what i do as example , now dont go doing it and your figs die and you blame me  ; )
But each year i wait till a good hard frost hit em, when i say good hard frost im talking in high 20s if possible, then they go in garage.
Some years the weather didle daddles around and temps hit 35 or 32 or 38 and they stay out there to shiver , until something in the HIGH 20s wether they have there leaves on or not makes no difference to me they will just drop in garage if need be and make a mess.
My small 1 to 3 gallon pots i do not do that though, soon as a temp between 34 to 38 hits them there in garage because i think there to tender so.......T hats just what i always do each season
I was gonna say i move em when they tell me to move me and leave post like that for Jackster,
I just coouldn't do it!

I move my figs into unheated garage 2nd or 3rd wk Nov. I have a tree sitting in my patio room now because its laden with 15 about to ripe figs that I have not tried. It goes out when its sunny like tomorrow. It was raining last night & today was cooler down to 68*F in the day. Also it was a smaller pot. I am in zone 6/7, Canada.

Are the leaves gone by then?

Inside (hot) storage (for young plants), e.g., GH, should be
done when the plants are still 'green-leafed'.

Garage (cold) storage should be done asap as the leaves
fall. Try not to let them be exposed to temps below 20*F.
Figs can be 'hastened' into dormancy by knocking-off any
remaining 'yellowed' leaves.

Gorgi you are right about the hastening of dormancy. I learn that from RW. This is the 2nd time I heard about it.

I first heard/read about it from RG.
