I'm going to be pruning my mulberry tree tomorrow. I will have about 6 cuttings for 1 or 2 people who would like to trade for fig cuttings.I purchased the tree 4 years ago from a local nursery 210$. At the time he told me it was a 4 year old tree. The tree was just over 5 foot tall when i bought it. It is about 6 1/2 feet tall now. The guy told me it would take 25 years for the tree to reach it's maximum height which would be around 10 feet tall. I'm not sure if it's classified as a dwarf nor do i know the variety. The fruit starts off very light in color. It turns reddish and then to a deep purple when it's ripe. If you pick it too early it will taste bitter. If you pick the fruit when it's ripe it's very sweet but not overly sweet. The only way i can describe the flavor is very berry refreshing. It's also very addictive. Luckily it produces an abundance of berries. The tree goes unprotected every winter and has from the first year i got it. It has handled this extreme winter without any problem. I would rate it as extremely cold hardy. I prune it three times a year. Once in spring, once in late June, and once around Halloween. The branches grow extremely fast and by summer touch the ground.I prune it in spring then let it fruit. Once it has fruited i prune it again to try to keep a bonsai look to the tree. This is the tree... If you see cobwebs on some branches don't mind them. (Last years Halloween decorations) It's just cotton. Anyone who may be interested please send me a PM.
Obviously it looks like that it is of the Weeping Mulberry type...They do not grow very big - and eventually make a nice 'camp-canopy' for kids to play under.I had good experience eating some fruit from an old & now long-defunct neighbor WM tree. Some say rooting mulberry twigs is similar to figs; but as for me, I tried them once and had 0% success?!?
Looks like our neighbors weeping cherry tree !
