--- mulberry fig ID please

Hi all,

I found another fig today. It is not the prettiest one around but the taste is great.
Very sweet, tastes like mulberry (or some say, a melon), juicy.
The skin is thin, the neck is on a longer side, the eye is closed. When the fig is ripe, it sags. If you shake the tree too much, the ripest figs would fall to the ground.
The color is from yellowing to reddish to brownish, inside it is yellow with pinkish center. The fig size I would say is on a larger side, larger than the Black Mission figs.
The leaves have a regular fig shape.
It is ripening now.
Please see the photos attached.

Any ideas what would that be?

Thanks for looking.

So, no experts of the light colored figs?...

It looks like Archipel to me.

Anybody grows this variety?

http://www.hawaiifruit.net/FIgsgrid/pages/Archipel.htm

There are a quite a few experts on the white figs im sure.
Also i'm sure it had melon family of notes and not mulberry.
Grew up eating figs and mulberries and have small mulberry plant as well only fig i ever tasted that had any type of mulberry note was the Pastiliere.
Come to the dark side.

The ones with the reddish color look like my neighbors.  I only saw one or two on their tree this week for the 1st time.  They weren't completely ripe so I haven't seen the inside of one.  They are a medium size; probably not any bigger than a Mission.  They don't know the variety but I would be interested to see if anyone can name the variety of yours since it is so similar to theirs.  I'll keep a watch on this thread for future comments. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I just did my uneducated comparison and I agree it does look an awful lot like Archipel. Were there any darker ones on the bush? The pics have some exactly the color of the ones you found and some darker. Yum.

Herman,

Thanks for your input! But ... being on the dark side you might be missing some fancy mulberry-tasting light figs! :)
I will not give up easily on my taste assessment though! Either my neighbor's mulberry tastes like a melon (would be a nice discovery!) , or this fig has some mulberry hint in it.

Care for a cutting?? You could try it yourself (but of course you will say No).

Anyway, does it look like Archipel to anybody?

Tami,

As you can see, this fig is quite multicolored. I could see colors from the darker shades to the almost yellow. I picked up what I could reach, the tree is about 2 story high and I didn't have a ladder.

Igor,
That was Martin not Herman. :) It kind of looks like it's in between to me. A medium, neither dark nor light.
I'm glad you had your pruners if not the ladder!

Thats 2 seperate thread you called be by the well respected Herman name.
and
No i do not care for a cutting i have a mulberry tree to enjoy called Noire of Spain -
and also Illinois Everbearing street trees a few towns away - all dark types of course.

All in fun.  ; )
But really come to the dark side.

Oops... Sorry, Herman and Martin, I don't know why I switched your names...
Will be more careful next time.

Hey its all in fun just like when i say come to the darkside remarks.
Shh just dont tell anyone specially Jon.

Never seen like that before...very nice ,enjoy it

Asep

That definitely looks like a 'Snipnshare' fig!

Martin, you're not kidding about going to the dark side and I heard the call and meakly followed!

Speaking of the dark side...
What is darker?
A dark outside and white inside or light outside and dark inside ???

Would one be inside or outside to answer that question?

Only the Master of the Dark can answer that ...

Your Stage is set Martin, have at it.
