My 1st CdD Blanc

I was pleasantly surprised today to find my 1st ripe Col de Dame Blanc. It was on my 2 year old tree, which was planted in ground this past February. It has grown very well, and shows only mild fmv symptoms. Superb tasting, sweet, some crunch, and berry flavors. Pretty much as good as the reputation, but I anticipate it getting even better as it gets older. Just wanted to share the photos.

Nice one Gary.  This one didn't survive me last winter.

Gary

Looks great, exactly like mine. Congrats.

Great looking tree and fig!! Thanks for sharing Gary. Looking forward to tasting my first cdd fig.... Perhaps next year.

Beautiful and shapely tree and enticing looking fig!

Thank you for the nice comments, everyone.
Charlie, did yours freeze? If you want to try again, hit me up in January for cuttings.

No I was speaking of the single node experiment.  They didn't make it, along with a few more I would have really liked to make it.   If I remember come January I will, thanks.

Gary,
Nice fig and a well 'educated' young tree. It will have to compete with a much older sister on her back ?

Hey Gary, that's a beautiful little tree! The fruit has my mouth watering! Congrats!

Frank from Bama

Congrats! Looks like a very healthy and happy fig tree.

Looks great Gary, is that a Pons or UCD CdDB?

My UCD CdDB cutting barely grew for 2 years. I thought it died about a month ago, I pulled it out of the soil to throw it in the trash and it still had good wood with a swelling node an inch or two below the soil. DOH! I tore off some decent aged roots as well doing that, double DOH!!

Very healthy looking tree. Beautiful looking fruit, too. I love that contrast of colors between the skin and the interior.

Thank you Frank and Becky and Bill. Calvin, I'm pretty sure it's UCD, by way of Michael in Virginia.
Francisco, I have a mini orchard behind my house. I planted 6 or 7 feet apart and plan to keep 6-7 feet high. In this spot I have Bebera Preta, Pastilierre, CdD Blanc, Figo Preto, and Grise de St. Jean. Also 2 Ronde de Bordeaux, that I am espalliering on the wall. I'll have a LOT of cuttings, keeping these trees the size I want.

Beautiful!

Looks very nice Gary!

Is this the normal ripening time for CdDB in California?

Thank you, everyone. Pino, I think it is late because it went in the ground in February and was late setting figs. I hope it is earlier next year.

I have two on my little tree hopefully I will get to taste them....they do look good...

Very nice Gary. I have a UCD CdD Blanc in its second year and haven't been able to ripe one yet. It does bear a fair amount of figs, but they don't do much. It is a bit deformed with FMV and I will keep trying for a few more years, but my luck with UCD cuttings that have grown into trees has been a bit weak
