My 2 cuttings from Mom dilema

Ok, I know I got these last week, the days just got away from me.  I've had them in water all week.  By the way, the ice water did the trick to perk them up!

Anyway, as you can see from the picture, the 2 cuttings are very different.  The first one is relatively straight and about 6 1/2".

The second one is 12 inches with a "Y" shape to it.  I was thinking of cutting the second one into 2 maybe 3 pieces.  It is straight the first 8" then splits off.  I just looked at it and saw that one of the splits looks like it is drying out so I re-cut the the bottom for fresh tissue exposure and it is in water.

Any thoughts on cutting it into 2 or 3 pieces?

I am trying out Jons bag method with perlite and a little orchid bark for some organic material about 80/20 visually.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

I wouldn't cut it into 3.  Maybe cut the bottom just before the "Y" and put the Y piece in a pot with perlite and a small amount of peat moss or worm castings.  Use the bottom with the bag method.  There's no single right way.

Bob, would you make the straight one about 6"?

I'd make sure to leave the Y together but would make the bottom one as long as is consistant with that.  If you show me a close-up of the Y junction and 2 or 3 nodes below it I'll tell you exactly where I'd cut  :)  I cut ~1/4" above a node and try to leave at least 1/2" below the last node.  My cuttings almost always root from the stem at the bottom of the cutting rather than at a node.

At this time of the year, you can just stick in ground or pot of soil. I have a few in 1 gallon pots now.

You can cut just below the Y and put whole in soil or cut for another 2. I have successfully grown plants from just 2 nodes.

Hi Bob, here are the requested pictures.

If mine i would bury just below the node on "Y" branch and put under my Hostas in pre-moisten ground thats not clay for full shade and forget about it . It would probably grow.
I would moisten and not make to wet the ground its in only as even the bark can rot and start to peel off and become mush been there done that.
The inground part does not need to be wet just slightly moisten around it "slightly"
Iv'e found in this manner they only need moisten ground and to be left alone afterwards.
That is of course one lives in dessert which i do not.   ; )
