Last year mine tasted a lot like cherries.  How is yours? Of course by this time last year I was eating ripe ones.  This year I'm hoping for late August.   :)

Yep. HC is taken for granted by many because it's so readily available. I've fruited only one other Etna fig thus far (Marseilles VS Black) and while it's good, it's not half as tasty as my HC (note, my HC is eight years old and my MVSB is four or five). I'll be tasting a couple more Etna's this year and one or two more next. If any come close to HC and are more productive, I'll be one very happy man.

Mine was pretty good this year, but it's too young to know.  Thanks for the photos!

Your shadow looks like it is picking a fig, did they taste okay?

So far this is the only variety I have and is the reason I got hooked on figs or am trying to at least. I had my first one last year and it was amazing. Then we had a brutal winter..... Spring came and april and may brought no new growth on my tree. She looked dead. June arrived and still nothing so I cut her back to just a stump... All of a sudden I was outside one day and shoots were everywhere. At least 6 new shoots were popping out. Now some are 3' tall so I guess this truly is a hardy tree.

This winter I will protect her and hopefully be enjoying figs again next year.

My HC was top killed and didnt start growing back until late july. it tasted to me like a sugared plum.

Seems Hardy Chicago is one of the best figs out there.  I've seen it on another under rated list too.
