I was wondering about picture 14 when I looked, I hadn't read the bottom part yet. Are those dragon fruit also? I have never seen one except for the fruit in the store which are quite flavorless.

Nice setup, thanks for the pictures.

@aaa very nice pictures
@calvin, what kind of dragon did u try before that is tasteless ?... As I know the white one is ,but for the red ,super red or purple is very sweet.... In my country there is tons of red dragon fruit when is season..... Dec-April

Thanks for sharing! Love the dragon fruit tree also.

yes those are dragon fruit trees, and yes the white fleshed ones are quite bland
but as ong888 says others can be quite tasty
i have about 10 varieties fruiting at the moment so will be tasting
others over the next month or so.

macotta,
i did realise the maple leaf was an unknown, but yes still a good fig.
did you end up having any luck with the lebannese red from a while back?

I did get some cuttings but only got one rooted ill have too go back,i just wanna tell u the unknown black i sent u is a strain off black mission not like the ones u sent me in taste and leaf shape as u see in the pics.

hey they look great
i dont seem to have a plain black unknown , it may not have survived,

could it possibly be the one i have marked as sicillian black, which has
survived but i forgot to post a picture of it.

as it turns out the black missions which i have and sent you from
the rfssa are mislabled, but still and excelent fig.
i think it is a vista missionwhich some say may be the same as vdb
by the way its been a long time but imm still working on getting the
panachee and hope to have some good news in july, theres a couple of people
from daleys after them as well so should be able to pass a few around.

Yes i agree about the Black mission from rfssa but ill put my money its a Negronne if u look at the leaves and the white dots on the figs its a match.

Thanks for posting the pictures aaa there a pleasure to look at.

I love the enclosure you have there, I always wanted to plant some figs in those big totes but I would never be able to move them back and forth from my yard to the garage.

I really enjoyed the pictures, thank you. There seems to be a lot of us growing dragon fruit beside our figs :)

Yes the dragon fruit I had was bright red/pink on the outside and white with black seeds on the inside. Eating it was a total waste of time.

Calvin,

If you had never had a peach before or a fig and tried one of the rock hard things at the grocery store you would think peaches and figs were awful.  Same applies to the dragon fruit.  Iamkriya and I were down in south Florida getting some lychee and mango trees and the place had two huge screen houses full of dragon fruit, I guess they sell the fruit.  They said it is wonderful.  They invited us back in August for a sample when they are ripe.  Ryan and I each ended up buying a dragon fruit start.  18" tall for $5....how can you go wrong.  Then the other day someone sent me fig cuttings and included two dragonfruit starts, a red and purple as a surprise.   I hope to see what a real dragonfruit tastes like in a year or so.  Like you I have only had them from the grocery store and they were awful.

Here are the screen houses full of the dragonfruit.

aaa,

Love the screen house, how big is it?  I know it is sort of OT but what can you tell us on growing the dragonfruit?  What size pot?  Mix?  And that support, details on it?

hi willsc
ill post some pictures of a better support and growing details tommorow

 thanks all for the comments.

chivas
yes totes are very heavy when full of dirt
i use a fork lift if i want to move them around.

wills c
the covered area is about 30,000 square feet,
not quite full yet.

i have some d/fruit in the ground but most are in
25 ltr containers, soil should be free draining,
i use a motor bike tyre at the top of the pole supported
by two cross beams of half inch rod.
grow single stem up the pole, prune of any side shoots
until it goes up the inside of the tyre and grows over the top.dragon fruit 039.JPG dragon fruit 040.JPG
