My battle with the big rat!

Our local nursery has some poison that comes in a yellow paper pouch that sells for about a dollar or so a bag. They warned me that all animals will eat it (racoons, opossums, etc). The property that runs adjacent to mines is overgrown with an old run down house covered in vines and bushes so the rats come out the woodworks. All I did was put out a few of those yellow pouches and I haven't seen any since. I know a lot of people here are against poisons but I wouldn't have gotten rid of the rats any other way and I was stopping them before they moved in my house. Next time I go to the nursery I will get the name of it cause it works wonders.

I just seen your pic harvey, where is the like button when you need it, lol.

Try eating the Rat, I heard it tastes good after feeding it figs.

That rat barely looks like a juvenile.  Rat families have a mommy, daddy and 5-7 juveniles.
good luck

Harvey, I love your selfies! Good job with Mr. Norway.

Congrats on catching the rat, but he does look young.  I bet there are more.

Good for you Harvey but sad too as I was thoroughly enjoying the thrill of the chase.   I was thinking that you could do a realty show.  The Ratdashins.  After all pretty similar, wouldn't you say.  Have a fig day everyone.    Joyce

Harvey, does the CDDG comes with a better price since it got the rat's signature ? Congrats for a successful hunt.
Talking about a delicious rat meal, Well I know Olga has a perfect recipe. I feasted on her roast chicken and the sauce
was awesome. Thanks Olga - enjoy the home cook dinner very much & the very warm welcome. That was the best meal
on our vacation.

Yee Haw!  Try resetting it to see if those with too much experience are right  :)

Ho, no already the end ? Take notes at how many bananas that one got ; if a new one comes, it will have a record to beat !
I never touch them with my hands. I load them on the shovel and they fly away.
Next time for the finish, use a bucket full of water - that's less bloody.
By the way, way it a boy or a girl :)
And of course, keep the trap on . If that one got in, the bros might come as well.
My trap is an open bar 24/24h 7/7j: they can check in any time they like, but they can never leave ... What song was that ???

Harvey, how did you catch it or kill it?

Harvey C, the new PETA poster boy:))

LOL, I loved the picture Harvey!

Congrats Harvey.

Call me what you will, but I'd rather be in a room full of 100 spiders and 100 snakes, then be in a room with one rat. I've just never been able to shake my fear of them lol.

Harvey,

The picture was great and you looked very scary.  Hopefully there is not a mom rat coming for you.

I am pretty sure this was the only rat in my shop.  I still have several glue traps and snap traps and will keep those in place.  The rat is on his way to the landfill!

Like, like, like, like, like! Great final pic too!

I bet it would make good fertilizer for your trees and that would be a fitting end.  Bury it.

Gee I thought you were gonna find it a nice home...

got-cha!   just kidding

Dang it, Pino, you were right!  I don't often see rats around here much larger than this and hadn't heard them ever in more than one place at once, but am glad I left my snap traps ready  Caught this one and set the traps back just in case!

The snap traps are set again and waiting for more!

Fortunately, even though I brought all of my smaller fig trees and cuttings back into the shop, I didn't see any more damage to them.

Now, something interesting.  One of our Thai members was telling me that rats will always avoid oleander and that placing oleander branches/leaves around my fig cuttings will definitely keep rats away.  I don't know if they sense the poison component in the leaves or what.  I think this is worth a try and am curious if this might be useful in outdoor situations where rats or squirrels, etc. raid the fig crop.

You gota find the hole somewhere where they are getting inside.  Or you will be setting traps and throwing away rats every day!  I bet you have more.
