My Biggest Figs, Ever

This fig came from a long time F4F member as; Dan's Greek (would love to know what the Greek name is).

Main crop figs previous years look similar and have been a little larger than Brunswick.

This year with all the rain the brebas just kept growing and growing.  Yesterday they were softening up and with a huge thunderstorm on its way I picked it.

Soft thin skin, pulp bright yellow, no seed crunch, melt in your mouth, very sweet and juice with a lingering honey taste and very chewy and tasty ostiole.

The fig is 2 1/2 inches wide and 4 3/4 inches long and weighed in 165 grams. My biggest fig ever easily beating my monster Dalmatie figs of previous years.

Do you have a big fig?
Then please post and let's take a look.

Hi Michael, your Texas Blue Giant would put you 2grams below Vladis and knock me to third..lol
I couldn't find the post of your photo of Texas Blue Giant?

Pino,
I poured some cherry/lemon flavored carbonated water on my 15 inch laptop, and my 17 inch does not have pic.s on it. I have yet to unpack my desktop as well so you will have to wait. The picture is around though with a lemon fig that's too big to fit in my coffee cup. That fig was 150gms + or - but the impressive thing about my Lemon fig is the productivity.
Sorry about that #2 spot.
I'll do a search though.

Pino: That is a huge Fig and Outstanding Photos!

Vladis: Great Photos! Really love the cut open Red Fig..What's it called translated?

This is my find in 2013. Local figs. The conventional name is "Dago".

Year of thunderstorms and downpours almost daily since mid June.  All the breba figs are really swelling and oversized this year, some huge and a few are starting to burst.

These Dottato Unk. picked yesterday after the storm.
Purple pulp looks interesting (main crop has red pulp).  Many brebas this year have had a purple tinge to the pulp interestingly.
The taste was sweet and overly juicy.  To be expected given the weather.
This fig had 7 xlarge brebas on a small 4th yr tree.

A real peach of a fig.
Picked a couple of Yugoslavian Black Huge.  I know now, why they got their name.
The main crop are typically 70-90 grams and nice tasting no splitting issues.

The brebas came in at 158 grams easily my biggest black fig ever.
Taste was sweet and very juicy with a strong figgy taste and chewy skin.

Hi Ricky

These figs have very different origins.

Yugoslavian Black Huge (aka Sumadija Dusan) came from a village in then Yugoslavia.  A good producer both breba and main crop although the brebas will split if wet harvest.  The main crop have not split for me.  We have been having daly heavy rain so I was forced to pick it early if not I am sure it would have hit 200 grams.

Rafael's (Luzzu) fig originated in Calabria Italy know as "culu di papa" apparently similar or same fig in Portugal is called "Colhões de Burro".

Actually I have both figs but have not had any figs yet on my "culu di papa".  Comparing the leaves they do look similar but so do so many figs.

Hi Pino. Congratulations.
How it is with  that Greek's fig in  hardy  frost level?

@Robert_K - Planted in ground this year so not enough experience with this fig to know how cold tolerant it is yet.

You can see from the leaf photos it looks very much like Stella, Dalmatie .. Those figs are cold tolerant slightly less than the Chicago figs/Mt. Etna figs.

Yesterday picked last of Dan's Greek breba.
Darker but not as big as last one this weighed 128 Grams. had fig honey dripping and no sign of splitting in recent heavy rain.
Enjoy

Main crop figs I have seen tend to be smaller than brebas.
The exception so far is Capelas Azores brebas were 128 grams and picked these main crop yesterday 120 grams.

Capelas looks monstrously delicious...Two of those and the meal is done! Bet a wrap of thin Prosciutto Di Parma around several halves of that fig would be a real culinary delight...

Minchia! You mind if i visit you in the True North some time? Haha congratulations they're gorgeous
