Damn squirrels. They even eat my bromiliads!

I also have a squirrel problem.what a pain.digging up some roots and nips at figs.

Fig friends, it is time to put out your just one bite bars.  I have no squirrels in my yard in spite of having two mammoth oak trees   one on each side of my house and all sorts of yummy plants.  I swear by them.

The heat really ramped up the ripening the past few days.  There's still a lot of fruit on the tree but here's 3 ripe Dall' Osso that were picked and eaten tonight.

It is a nice, 'meaty' fig.  Light on the sweetness and not too much figgy flavor.  Good texture and juicy.  Thin skin.  Very happy with it.

What about mine...

I found a solution to the digging in the pots that has worked well for me this year. I bought a giant container of cayenne pepper at bjs and sprinkle it liberally onto the soil I kept sprinkling after rainstorms for a week or two and they stopped. This issue is usually worst for me in the spring and fall.

Hello everyone!  The season has wound down here in NYC.  VdS, I258 and CdDG are still producing very sparingly and will all but end very shortly.  Haven't had much time for updates (saving everything for the winter) but I wanted to update this thread on our Dall' Osso.  This variety gets high grades from us all around except for growth rate which is excruciatingly slow.  It was the earliest variety in the backyard orchard for both crops this season and it has been very productive (That's a real winner here in NYC by any standard).  The quality of fruit is outstanding.  Main crop very sweet and the kids are loving it.  It produced some deformed fruit but nothing two-toned like last season.  Can't wait to see what it does next year.  Added link to the slideshow.  Enjoy the pics.

I have got this as a Dall'Osso...

Is it genuine?

Hi Norbert.  There's no way to know until it matures and fruits for you.  It takes a bit of time.

@nycfig .... Truly a beautiful looking fig.... I hadn't been actively looking for one the last few months although I did bid (and miss) on a recent eBay offering from a known source not too long ago. Will have to up this variety in my priority list as it really has all the attributes that I admire in a fig... Congrats on a beautiful fig!

T

Thank you T.  We love it here!

BTW... Nice deer!  :)

Thank, Danny.... The deer was taken on public land 3 years ago in Ellenville, NY. Green scored 146... last year, hunted an even bigger one on same public land but the season ended with him still romping through the woods... haven't seen him during bow but looking forward to the firearms opener in a few weeks... To keep the conversation on topic, planning on venison tenderloin ala Diane with chocolate lava cake and fresh fig coulis FOR dessert...   :-)
