My Dark Portuguese

Here are a few pictures of my D.Portuguese that has some minor hail damage , it has retained 1 breba if you look closely. This plant it grows well and came out of winter storage in good shape and will eventually take on a nice tree shape as i prune more this season , last season its first i topped the main trunk. Hopeing to taste its first ripe crop of figs this season to get a faint idea of whats to come in future years as it matures .

Oleander plant that paisan brought back cuttings and propagated he stated that these have a stronger perfume scent than the ones here in states. Its my hope one day if things go well to find out how true that is , it was for first time left unprotected in garage this winter. I will prune this into a tree form as well .
It along with my fig plants give me that "Paradise" feeling relaxing on my patio and make me forget about the bitter winters of past.     ; )
For now thats the closest i can get.
Enjoy

have you gotten a fig off this one martin?  how was it?

No figs yet plant is going into its second full season , hope to taste a couple this year and maybe just maybe if weather stays steady that 1 lone breba pictured might make it.

Looks great Martin,

Sal it would be nice one day to be able to share my ripe figs and plants if things work out and we do move to Florida.

Martin,

As you may already know,
They have Gators!
For as many times I'm been to Florida I've only seen one six foot one on the side of the road dead. Looked like it was there for a while.

You ever have Gator? It's good, Tastes like chicken!

i see gators all the time, in fact the wetlands behind me are full of them.  i am planning to fence this place off better.  my one fear at night is stumbling into a gator who's got himself in the wrong place and not seeing him in time.

Rafed never had gator to eat but i heard its similar to chicken , when we used drive down to visit my Dad years back i had a saying when on the Florida turnpike driving with the misses
"Any gators Babe?" We use to see them driving the pike off to the side sunning themselves i guess, at the time there were a lot of marshy areas there not sure how it is now.
Ok i tell you a story, many many seasons back i was around 20 or so a friend and i went camping in Florida to Palisade state park if memory serves me correct but this memory of what happened serves me very correct.
Me and Joe were at a river in the park a boy was bank fishing and we had a short conversation , we were going to rent a canoe and go down river.
I had to use the outhouse nearby and in doing so i heard a commotion and when i came out the kid was gone and Joe looked like he saw a ghost. I said "Joe what happened"
He said " Marty an alligator came up right were the kid was fishing "  Joe said to me
"you still want to go rent that canoe?" I replied "Nope"
We later saw a brown sign near the river how years how an indian tribe lived near the river and it did say fish and canoe at your own risk Alligators.

Lets not forget we are in their realm

From Dark Portuguese to gator taste. Makes me feel hungry this early. Taste like chicken sounds good. Any particular part of gator meat that I should avoid like the leg meat may not taste as good as the tail meat. Would like to try gator meat the next time I am in Florida.

Tail is best but you can eat from hind legs back. Everyone says it taste like chicken but I think it has a distinctive taste. You really need to pound (tenderize)the heck out it. I enjoy it and gave to my nieces to try one year and yea I told them it was chicken they loved it until we all laughed and told them what it was, Now the youngest who is 15 came down and visited and requested gator. lol
