my early start project

Okay the last few weeks have been busy with work and spring project but had to get this one done. This is my 10x20 greenhouse from shelterlogic. relatively easy set up all pieces were marked well for fast set up. threw up the small hoop house for starting vegetable and flower seeds. Moved my larger potted trees into the greenhouse today the smaller 1 gal trees will go in this weekend. I have 90 cuttings rooted in the back and the front trays are warming up to plant 400 additional cuttings in the next few weeks. The temperature inside was 77 while outside temp was 39. I just have to install the fan over the heater and prepare to keep the heat down as the temps rise. All my larger trees were inspected today and look very good, looks like the insulated fig room with the small electric heater did its job. Also uncovered my trees that I planted in the ground they look well but the container trees far exceed the in ground trees.

WOW!  A neat greenhouse and interior setup.  For me, if wishes were pennies!  Good for you, my friend!  Fredfig

Yes, very nice! You may need to drop that "newbie".

Great shots of your greenhouse.
I think I see a much larger GH in your future.
Something like 20'x48' should be a good next step !
How are you doing your 400 cuttings? Straight into your mix in those pots with no pre- rooting stage ?
Kerry

The mix in the small pots is what I call dirty perlite. It is mainly perlite with a splash of compost to hold a little moisture. The cuttings will be placed directly into this mix and left to root then transplanted into larger pots probably end of june.

Nice set I like the target in the back. Practice shanking back there? Lol

That is really cool.  Can I ask are the 400 cuttings all from your trees?

They are from my trees and or trees that I have contracted to maintain in the south jersey area.

Wow, that is very cool. I know I have no idea what I am doing and I am struggling to keep 20 alive. I can't imagine even if I was better at this getting 400 going and maintaining so many others.

Whats the flooring made from and how is the "foundation"l tied together?  Nice job!

Ed the flooring is tar paper that I had to wrap my in ground trees with. and the foundation is held down with 36 inch auger anchors 6 on each side. I then took cinder blocks and placed them around the outside to prevent the kids from weed wacking the side walls of the greenhouse. I filled the holes in the cinder  with compost and plan on planting flowers around the perimeter that we grow inside the greenhouse.

Hi NEN,

Oh you have Got to show us pictures of the flowers when you've put them in.  What a great touch.

I wish I had a larger lot to work with.

I wish I could have a smaller version of James Robin's greenhouse frame that is left over from his regular nursery he had before he went into figs.  It's covered with shadecloth and floored with that heavyduty weed cloth nurseries use for flooring.  I wish I could have a small one of those.  It would keep out all the birds, bugs, squirrels and any other pests, plus would protect the trees over the winter because James says that the shadecloth will get frost all over it and that helps keep the trees warmer.  I would have a fan in one end that would push air through in the hottest part of the summer, which is just about all year.....

Sigh.....

noss

Yes noss I have saved a box fan from the scrap pile I have to build a frame that will hold it up at the rear window to exhaust the hot air. My son saved seeds from several chrysanthemum plants and we will plant them around the perimeter. In front of the small hoop house is the area I will heal in the 1 gal potted trees I have a drip system that I need to retrofit to the new layout so I can go to the shore for a weekend of relaxation. Oh yeah there is currently 36 tulip bulbs and 24 hyacinths under the hoop house in pots for mothers day gifts.
