My Ecuadorian Fig Adventure

We just returned from a two week tour of Ecuador called "Highway of the Volcanoes".
What a wonderful country! Loved the people. especially the indigenous native Andeans in their colorful clothes and incredibly interesting culture.

The vistas of volcanoes, waterfalls, mountainside farming, volcanic crater lakes, haciendas, llamas, alpacas, wild horses etc. were all breathtaking.

Figs:
There were plenty of sightings of fig trees from the tour bus as it lumbered through the small towns but not as common as the tree tomato, babaco, and other local fruit.
The fruit and vegetable markets did not have figs for sale.
Several of the haciendas we stayed at, had fig trees but none had mature figs that I could sample.
Here are a couple of pictures that I took including at a restaurant that served stewed figs with cheese.
If anyone is interested in non fig pictures, I could post those as well.

Great picts!!!  I would not have been able to avoid one or two small cuttings coming home with me!!

So many figs.  Glad I have one more jar of Bass' Fig & Walnut jam cause now I need figs to eat.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures FMD always nice to see.

Looking at the pics makes me hungry for fresh figs. Hmmmm mmm!

how did the stewed figs and cheese taste.  more pics would be nice.

I'd love to see the non-fig pics.  Glad you had a good time!  Welcome back!

Very cool pics

5 years ago maybe? i visited Peru the Amazon basin close to Ecuadore also the Coastal region/Lima and the Andes/Mts  Cuzco , MacchuPichu ect , i saw a few fig trees in church court yards and in farmers walled gardens in the sacred valley about 6,000 ft.
Cusco is 11,400ft i saw figs in church court yards there . it is reported that in the Presidential palace court yard in Lima there is a fig tree planted buy Pazaro in i think 1640. the day i was to go there there was a political rally and the plazza was closed off.
I also traveled to Egypt and jordan a few years ago in Egypt i saw figs in the walled compounds of the nicer homes and i saw huge groves of fig trees in jordon from the bus . on none of these trips did i see fresh figs in the markets . in jordan and Egypt we often had dried figs on the Breakfast buffets. I also saw some very old looking fig trees growing among the ruins of an ancient Roman city/Jarosh  in Jordon .
