My EL.Sals

This morning while observing trees i saw some figs turning for first time this season on this tree.

I have always been very pleased with how this tree has performed over the years in my yard in container.

As a note my earliest ever ripe fig came August 13th - 2008. This pair will be a little earlier when ripened.

Here is a pair.
Enjoy

Lovely pics Martin looks like you will be enjoying some sal's figs shortly. Martin the cuttings you sent me one plant is now 3ft tall and starting to grow figs wich wont ripen in time so I cant wait for next season.

Thank you my friend.

Hi Martin.  Do you have an opinion on which variety of Sals is the best?

Best wishes.

John

Hi John,
this is only type i have from edible landscaping my other sals is dead.

Hey Martin, your Sal's looks like mine.  You can tell Sal's because the fruit is nice and round and dark.  The birds got to my first Sal's 2 days ago.  It really was my fault.  I left the tree out and uncovered.  But for now I scared the heck out of them and have not seen them around my trees.  To be on the safe side, I covered the tree with netting.

Martin , my Sals have about dozen figs too. Hope they have enough time to ripen.

Hmm maybe but be careful with that tree if its el sals from me its in first season.
Reason my neighbor had same tree from me gave to many figs in second season and was worn out for winter storage.
Going into season 3 it was completely dead, course he always works in garage and keeps the small back door open where the tree was but still it should have lived if not for so many figs it put out which this type does willingly at young age and even more when mature.
That tree is my best producer of figs each year i have but its mature so no worry.
I make sure now the VdB i gave him is more managed.

First main crop figs of season and my earliest ever by 4 days.

After dinner i went outside to look at trees and noticed 2 hanging down with some cracks in skin and with slight twist they came off.

The taste was not as sweet as im used to from this tree and i'm not going to say wow real good fig, to me it was little above average .
