My Fabulous Visit to Remp's Fig Fantasy

A couple years ago Eric Rempe from this forum promised to save an Alma for me.  During those two years he promised to keep it watered while we handled my mother-in-laws estate and the purchase of this new property.

He contacted me and told me I need to come and get my Alma because he's going to sell everything on Craigslist and he's moving to another state.  So, I got my act in gear, and we visited him yesterday.

Wow!  Here is his Fantasy land:

He is selling most of these locally on Craigs list.

I came home with Alma

And Mary Lane Seedless

All of his trees are grown under this amazing shade cloth structure that he built, and I'll share, but that's another topic.

He has many varieties of orchids, figs and fruit trees.  We got to taste some fabulous cherries from his tree and also got a bunch of succulent ground cover that will do well on our hillside.

This was a wonderfully successful visit, and it's nice to have finally met Eric.

He will be moving to NJ in another year and has babies of everything he owns growing in his greenhouse.  He's just selling off the monsters that will be hard to take in a year or so.

The trees I got from him are used to growing in protected shade, and we will continue that process here so they can get used to our climate.  When they are dormant, they will go in-ground.

Poor Eric!

I feel his pain.

He'll be doing the fig shuffle going from a decent size lot in California to over 5 acres of prime farmland.  Don't feel to sad for him!

Smart guy

Suzi did you adopt them all?

I got the 4 I wanted.  He had about 3 x what you see in that photo before I got there.  There were some huge ones in 25 gal pots.  Gone.  He still has some good ones, but you would need to drive to San Diego area to pick them up.  Don't think he's into shipping big plants.  Try Fig trees on craigslist, San Diego County.

oh no, no... I'm not interested in anything anymore... i'm at max, more than i can handle already.  (for now!)
