my fig collection

just started collecting this year with cuttings and buying new plants.  i have also a few standards in ground: celeste, brown turkey and hardy chicago are 2 years old and loaded with developing figs.   I have a lot of duplicates of MBvs, JH Adriatic, and Improved Celeste and put a few babies in ground while saving duplicates in pot.  I plan to protect the babies this winter.

You can see that i have space to place more plants in ground as they mature, but i will save my precious black madeira and cdd for pot culture only.

Black Bethlehem seems to by my most vigorous new plant so far.

Good doggie! Teach him/her to fend off the fig eatin' critters early.  That's a nice list you have Bill.  As we learned at LSU fig day Saturday, let that Hollier get good and ripe....should have many brownish spots on the skin for best flavor.

Excellent start ,Bill. I have a feeling your wish list will be expanding, though. Fig addiction is a powerful force.

Nice collection! Wish I had the space you have.

Bill, all i can say is wow at your collection. Crazy it started this year, i guess the addiction hit you in full force early on. im with Frank though, your wish  list will expand. and with the room you have there im wishing you the best and hoping to see some great pics down the road.

Wow Bill,  You have been busy.  Quality and Quantity.  Way to go.  You give us all new goals.

Enjoy them!

Daniel, pawpaw tress can be slow to establish. I have a little fruit this year, but my trees are loving a rainy summer and thriving this year.

The fig addiction did hit me hard. My wife says I am obsessed, but that there could be worse obsession. Not many fig growers in my area. I hope to provide fresh figs to my family and local consumers

Bill

I would say your well on your way :)

Daniel, I would think your biggest fruit challenge in Vancouver is ripening fruit in your mild summer. My challenges are getting trees to establish in a blazing summer, then to survive a cold winter. This summer has been nice, and my paw paws are growing like weeds. I should get a good crop next year, just a few fruit this year.

I discovered my inner fig addict late. But he has full control now.
