My Fig Story Plus Cuttings Available

Coop, received some cuttings in a trade with a friend, Dominick has now traveled to California :)

Such a great story,I think I have read it 3 times.I have my grandfathers tree,and some of his friends trees.Most of the trees are from the 50's that came from NY when he and his friends moved to NJ. my grandfather originally was from Sicily,and so we're most of his friends.I just started collecting these trees a few years ago, I am glad I did, within the last two years we've lost a lot of trees do to Sandy and bank owned property.if you are looking for some very hardy local trees,I will have cutting this spring.Thank you for the story Vic from NJ. PS these trees have been growing in sand unprotected for many many years.

We need to create a living document, that captures all of these anecdotes... A storybook of sorts.

UPDATE:
I had such a wonderful response to my story and first post just thought I'd update the story.
This fall I sent out over 75 packages of cuttings to forum members. Many have written to me with updates on their success and many have passed their extras to others. I have also sent cuttings and a nice tree to Jon for the foundation.
The Dominick made it into the fig Hall Of Fame
I couldn't be more thrilled.

That is just the coolest history Coop!  I'm a true nubie to growing but would love to get on this long list to try a cutting.  Would like to see Dominick's legacy have a go at the Northern Oregon coast!

Cool story! Gardening/growing is so much more fun and enjoyable when it's brought to the most local level possible. I enjoy propagating stuff my friends or relatives give me from their gardens.

Dominick had been taking care of his tree since 1933 when his father brought it with him from Italy. Of course I asked him what type of figs they were and he said "purple". He gave me a cutting that first day and I have been making cuttings into plants and giving them away for 15 years. There are about 25 or so people currently growing "Dominick Figs" and it makes me feel so good knowing that now that Dominick is gone forever, his figs have continued. His beautiful tree was razed for a lawn and I can no longer pass the house and garden where I spent so much time with Dominick over the years. Every year we would dig it up and bury it.
I went under his tree after I found out that he had passed and promised him that I would give as many people as I can a cutting of his tree to carry on.
I grow Dominicks trees in the ground and in Bill's containers and are as tasty and hardy as any other fig variety I grow..... 
So as a newbie to the forum and not sure how this all plays out I have a bunch of cutting currently in water getting initial and some roots and would love to pass them on or trade with others who are interested in a truly magical fig tree. 
I think Dominick would love this.
Let me know how this all works, I you are interested let me know. Would love to trade with others. Will post some low resolution pictures next.
