My first Col de Dame Black ,ripe fruit:Pix

I am growing this plant for about 5 years, and finally this year at this late  time in the season,it had a ripe fruit that we had today.
Due to unusual cool weather,it took a long time, from the point when it was swelling out,to when properly ripe, possible about 12 days.
This is not normal but the climate was totally unsuitable to late cultivars this year.
Any way it tasted ,excellent,at about the same level as ,the Col de Dame grise and white did in the past, but grise was sweeter last year because the climate was warmer in the middle of September when it got ripe last year.
What is  notable to me and precious for my climate is that the cultivar do not  split and spoil from rain, and this is a fact for all colors of Col de Dame.

Hi Herman, glad to see your CdD Noir fruit. It looks amazing! My CdD Gris was excellent. I did not take a photo but the taste is unforgetable. I look forward to one day growing them side by side. Good job!

Excellent looking fig Herman . Glad it ripened for you this year . Looks amazing!

Great fig,
Thanks for the pictures

Looks great!

Just curious Herman...

Do you think that the three of these varieties will be later ripening in your climate, even if it heats up in September, as figs ripen.  Are these late croppers, and ripeners?  Also, are they "clean", or, noted for having FMV?  (Your leaves look OK to me).

I read that the "Gris" is an exceptional fig for flavor.

Thanks,

Frank

Frank:Do you remember how Summer and Fall was in 2010,in your place.
It was similar here.
In that Summer I had ripe fruits on September 10,from Col de Dame,White, because white was the only ,older tree that could have fruits.
But the climate has changed dramatically in worse ,in 2011 and 2012.
Hope it become normal in 2013.

Edit Note:To put the climate calamity into prospective and  envision what the future will bring ,if  peace is not preserved on this planet here is an example of my bad fortune with Violette de Bordeaux cultivar:
2007:My best tasting cultivar with my best tasting fruits from 2 dozen mature selected cultivars.
2008 :Violette de Bordeaux, splits a lot and produces mediocre tasting fruits
2009:just as bad as 2008:
2010 :Good quality fruits in the second part of Fall after Sept.15
2011:same as 2010,but the good fruits appear only at the begging of October, the early fruits splits and sour.
2012:I only harvested a couple of edible fruits from, each, Violette de Bordeaux,Petite Aubique, and Vista ,all mature trees, and all related cultivars.
The rest of fruits were splitting open like a flower, and some that did not ,never got ripe and at the end they look like ripe but were sour inside ,no sugar or flavor was present.
The climate is changing for the worse, and wars are doing the most pollution, but  the war makers never talk about ,pollution created by tanks, Ships, submarines, cruise missiles, airplanes ,depleted uranium projectiles and bombs, used in wars, the burning of oil fields over Kuwait, and Irak, the many nuclear tests, and chemical and biological weapon used,to this point in time.
And the warlords, are pushing for another war,now in Iran, but when, the Iran oil field will finish burning, the warlords will be without clean air to breed, and the climate will change forever, beyond the point of no return.
And read my lips:The gasoline price ,in the US after ,the Iran war, will be $7 a gallon.
We have the power to stop, this calamity by voting for the peace makers not for the war mongers.

It ripes in September in Normal Summer, but 2011 and 2012 were not normal.
Col de dame white is infected badly with FMV,--Grise and Black, grow just fine tho, they show a little mottling of leaves when young, and I suspect a mild case of non dangerous virus ,imported from Spain and nothing like the UCD virus.

Herman, that is very nice! I don’t have  luck with mine CDD White .It stays frozen in time from 15.07ontil now, doing noting for 100 days….I wonted so badly to have this fig, because it is the best testing fig for me ,but I am afraid it never ripe hire….

Thank-you Herman, for your additional comments concerning these special 'Col de Dame' fig varieties.

Climate, location, and length-of-season, play a huge factor in whether or not, we eat ripe figs, or watch the green figs turn to dry stones, and then fall off the trees, leaving behind a harvest of tears.

Best regards,

Frank
