My first cups.

Out of about 25 cuttings, these are the first 9 cups. Some others have roots starting, so still waiting on those.

I have these in a big tub on a rack with some wet sp moss to add humidity. The cups are not sitting in water. They seem to be holding their moisture pretty good... hopefully not too much.

GOOD LUCK JAMES !

Keep us updated .

Great job with the cuttings...looks like you are on your way...best of luck.

Keep us all posted on your progress. Keep the pix coming!

I'm so excited. It looks like nearly everything I've tried to root will root (still waiting on the White Texas Everbearing). My Panache finally put out some roots and I put two of them in cups last night. I now have 15 assorted varieties in cups.

The LSU Tiger in the pic in OP is now hitting the top of the bin and the new limb is nearly as thick as a pencil! I put another LSU Tiger in a cup last night that looks almost as good.

The broken limb i picked up at Home Depot (I call it HD Ischia for now) is also hitting the top of the bin and i already see a few roots running along the side of the cup. I never even expected it to root in the first place. It was only an 1/8" thick stick. Two more of these are also rooting. One of them is only 1.25" long and has a limb growing on it nearly as long.

I have a couple new pics.. I'll post them when I find some free time (when i'm not having to put more in cups, that is)..

I'm weighing the cups to determine when I need to water them. The potting mix is 4 part perlite and 3 part vermiculite. (earlier cups were closer to 50/50). I've noticed that a 26oz cup with dry mix and a cutting is about 4oz. I water them to about 8 oz. If they get down to 6, I bump them back to 8 just using a spray bottle.

EDIT: Potted 3 more tonight. 2 Panahce and a 1 node Ischia that snapped off another cutting a couple weeks ago, which is also starting to get roots.

Also, my 2 White Texas Everbearing FINALLY has some little nubs of roots after 26 days. Do those normally take so long to root?

James,

I've seen root initials as early as 7 days, and I've seen where roots don't appear until after 5 weeks. I really think it depends on the nature of the cutting.

cool progress !

5 more to cups tonight. Out of my first 25 cuttings, everyone one of them have roots. Only waiting for the White Texas Everbearing to progress a little more before cupping them. I just hope I do as well with the cups as with the rooting.

I have 7 more cuttings started a few days ago, and now have another 19 in the mail today that I need to get started.

Luckily, although my wife doesn't quite understand why I get so excited about the little things, she lets me be.

I took my HD Ischia out of the bin tonight for a couple of hours (first image, left). The leave took on a slight upward curve, but still looks pretty good. no drooping. So I took out an LSU Purple (first image, right) to keep it company. Keeping a close eye on them so I can pop them back in the bin if needed.

FIRST FIG (second image). That's a Peter's Honey. I took the fig off after the pic.

Some of the cups now have roots trying to escape.

Edit: ischia stayed out for 5 hours and the LSU for about 3 hours. Both still looked the same. I put them back in for the night.

Update on these two (Ischia and LSU Tiger). I took them back out the next morning and kept them out for 57 hours. I'd spritz them a couple times a day.

The Ischia still looks perfect. I'm going to go ahead an put that one in a pot.

The LSU Tiger looked fine this morning (after 48 hours), but this evening one of the leaves starting "cupping", like it was drying out around the edge (the big leave on the bottom right of the first image of previous post).. It may have gotten too damp at the roots, too. It was weighing about a half ounce more than the the Ischia. I put it back in the bin and now a few hours later, that leaf is flattening back out, but still slightly discolored on one edge. The upper leaves still looked perfect.

Out of my first 25 cups, All except 3 (2 Conadria and 1 Panach) have green showing on them now. And those are 3 are showing good roots.

Oh.. and my two trees from Ison's are finally budding out too. And both showing tiny brebas (Celeste and LSU Purple).
