I'm sure some of you have tried coir in your potting mix already, but this is a first for me so I decided I'd share some photos of the coir. I thought I'd get some and replace a portion of the peat in my potting mix with coir. I broke off only enough coir from the larger block to make one mix to fill a 6.5 gallon self watering bucket (SWC). The coir at first easily broke off in large pieces then I used a 3 inch wide putty knife to break off more large pieces. I rehydrated the coir with warm water, strained off the water then rehydrated again in warm water to remove any salts in the coir. Strained the water off again then used in the potting mix.
Second photo shows the end of the large block I'm breaking pieces off. Third photo shows the size of coir broken off of the larger block (3 inch wide putty knife shown for a size reference). Photo 4 & 5 show the texture of the coir when wet. Photo 6 is the coir with water squeezed out by hand.
