My first REAL fig

I want to share my experience tasting my first REAL fig today. The only figs I've had before today were in Fig Newtons (meh) and a grocery store purchased fig (awful.) I ordered a Petite Negri from Edible Landscaping earlier in the year and it came with some figs already on it. I left them on because I wanted to try one right away. Today I noticed one was soft and even though it looked like it could use another day or two, I didn't trust the birds and squirrels so I picked it.

My expectations were low because this was a new plant, I picked it a little early and there was a little sap from the top. It was a nice red color inside and it tasted great! It really did taste just like a berry of some sort. I can only imagine if the plant was more mature and I'd wait longer to pick it what it might taste like. I think I'm going to like figs after all. I still have a fig on my Violette de Bordeaux to try too.

Congratulations!
Careful now, the taste of "your" first fig can lead to a much deeper addiction, or as we call it, hobby.

Think about some of your other "firsts".

Start making space for more fig trees...you're now hooked.  ;)
And now you can relate to us crazy fig fanatics.

I really did like it. I hope I don't become too much of a fanatic. The tomatoes and roses take up a lot of my time. I have a garden addictive personality :)

Oh, too late to worry about becoming a fanatic about figs.  Once you are hooked, you are hooked and better start making room for more trees.  =)  Congrats on your first real fig.

Congratulations!  I hope you have others on the tree that you can let get fully ripe.
