my first ripe fig!

  • tvp

Just wanted to share such a significant moment with you all on the forum. This is my first fig from a Hardy Chicago plant I bought late this season due to impatience over the years of waiting I have before any other plants I acquire will bear any fruit.

The fig was a little small, and mild in flavor, but I assume as the plant matures I'll see bigger and better figs. I think I could have left it on the tree to ripen a little longer as well. Nonetheless, it was an exciting moment to pick and eat my first fig from my own garden! Rejoice with me.

Nice! Hopefully that new tree of yours has some more figs to give you. Congratulations!
Think of what next year will bring!

Congrats tvp. While I think that fig is not ripe enough (for me) , it is an exciting thing to actually pick and eat your own figs!
I share in your excitement in waiting now for figs to ripen for 1st time on trees that have "come of age" .

tvp, thanks for sharing your first fig. Although it appears to be not quiet
ripe enough for me, there are those who like them more firm and less
juicy. You will eventually find that perfect ripeness for you.

Congrats!  And thank you for sharing.

Tvp in future when tree produces more you can taste them at different stages of ripeness to see which suits you best and pick them the way you enjoy them best.

Martin- that was my hope! Based off this one I'd say I'll let future figs hang a little longer. I'm sure ill get a better idea of ripeness over time.

you fill me with hope. i've never had a fresh fig and expect some next week.

Looks awesome.  We just harvested our first ripe figs early this month also.  When we first picked one last month it was kind of bitter and tough, but this one was pretty delicious.  Yours will probably even better than this white Pipo when you let it ripen enough.

I, also, will hopefully get to try my first ripe fig this season. I'm rejoicing for you. Can't wait. Enjoy! Greg, good to see you back.
