My first ripe figs

Hi I subscribed last year after getting a small Negronne from Stark Bros.    I purchased this Celeste from Tractor Supply last fall with figs already set they all dropped.  This year it has numerous figs, today I removed the first 3 ripe figs they were like eating candy!  My first ever fresh figs what a treat.  Pictures attached.  I thank you all for the information that is posted on this site.  I learned when to pick the figs by looking at pictures you had posted and reading the information on when to pick for the best flavor.  How wonderful ripe fresh figs are.

Perfect ripening. Looks really good. Where are you located. Probably in the south lije ne if you have Celeste. Celeste figs drop up north from what i read.

Brenda. Congrats on your first figs. I would think you shouldn't have too many problems growing them in Tennessee other than squirrels or birds stealing them.

Looks like Celeste to me too Richie. Great and sweet variety!

Very nice; they look delicious!

Congratulations!  You know they're ripe because (almost) all of the 'meat' - the white part between the skin and the 'jelly' - is transparent insteas of opaque white.  Leave a few on until they start to shrivel and see what you think of those.

Thanks everyone, I had stripped wasp that were getting on the ripe ones also seemed like the hummingbirds would have like to get at them. I put the bird netting on the day before the hummers started showing interest. I have more Celeste rioening & am looking forward to the Negronne's, that bush is loaded. I have them in pots, we developed a terrible mole problem a couple years ago as did our neighbors so am afaid to plant them in the ground. I am in East Tn.

Good job Brenda. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Jerry.  How does everyone deal with paper wasp?  I am trying to leave some Celeste figs on to get to the drying stage but the paper wasp are eating on them.  Any help is appreciated.

Congratulations and my sympathy.

Try organza bags.. Helped me lots with pests.

Thanks

If opting to use organza bags, I've read that the blue or green color ones are more effective than other colors. No personal experience yet.

Very nice fig taste and sweetness on the Purple and a sweet very mild taste with the Gold....both very small crunchy seeds.
