My first ripe greenhouse fig

Here's a Malta Black that ripened in my greenhouse. Hopefully, I ripen some Black Madeiras and Black Ischias. Their branches are loaded with figs and I haven't tasted them yet. Just not sure how the trees are going to handle the crazy temperature swings. Daytime 100 and night 55 with a heater.

greenhouse is really tempting.. year around fig production. that would be like dream come true. wonderful looking fig jason. looking forward to your BM and BI pictures.

Jason, I am doing the same thing without a greenhouse, 85F days and 55-60F. t doesn't work. They ripen, but they do not get enough sun and heat to develop the sugars and flavors they have in August or September. They are better than nothing, but not even remotely close to what the can be.

not all cultivars are suitable for greenhouse culture

use artificial light to get better tasting figs. You Go!

Wish I had a greenhouse too Jason, very cool!

Jason,
I love your greenhouse! I remind my wife daily that I want one. Actually I tell her I NEED one. I figure she will eventually give me the OK.

This is my favorite toy. I love going out there when it is 40 degrees outside and it is 100 inside the greenhouse.
The first Malta Black was just ok but today I had one that was close to summertime quality.

@Jon- I get full sun all day and the greenhouse heats up to 100 very fast. Is it the night temps you are referring too? I would be willing to crank the heat up to 65-70 to finish the harvest. I was more concerned with humidity. It gets wet in there due to the extreme temperature changes.

@rcantor- I have some grow lights in my house. I think if I bought another setup my wife would murder me!

Everyone else- thanks!
