My first Ronde De Bordeaux fig

Hello
This is my very first Rdb fruit. This tree is 2nd year tree from drivewayfarmer. It shows very little signs of fmv. This is the best fig i tasted. I only ate store bought figs before this fig. I had 3 fig varieties last year and this year i have 23 varieties. This forum has been great help. First 3 picture is Rdb and last pic is negronne from edible landscaping. Can anyone tell if this is negronne or vdb? The fruit is very big twice the size of rdb.
Thanks

Negronne and VdB are believed to be the same fig.  Congrats on the RdB!

Nice!
You could have way more figs to eat with pinching after every 5-6 leaves though.

Looking good! Looks like your VdB has some scale that you need to get rid of.

It seems that out of 25 or so trees VDB is the only tree that has scales. I see ants farming the scales on VDB. Any suggestions on treating the scales. Thanks

they wipe off with some cotton soaked in rubbing alcohol

Nice fig and nice healthy plant, congrats.

Great looking pictures. Can somebody show the scales,I don't see them?

Looks like a couple could be on the stem and where the leaf connects to the stem??? I guess?

Vito, In the last picture there are scale on the stem beside the fig and on the leaf stem behind the fig. Also there are a couple on the leaf below the fig.

Hi Art.
Hope you and your wife are well, I know your eating a lot of figs!
Thank you I see them know.
Will see you both at Tim's. Enjoy your weekend.

You're doing it right. :) Very nice photos. I got mine a few years ago from Kerry and haven't tasted it yet. Mine is showing FMV so you are clearly growing them in a way that is making them healthy enough to not show the symptoms. Can you go into a little detail about what soil and fertilizer you are using. Just more out of curiosity.

I use self watering container with frey's soil conditioner (pine fines), pro mix hp, some lime, coarse perlite, little bit of warm casting, and little osmocote plus.

I just up-potted mine because they are outgrowing their containers sooner than I expected.

What is a treatment to deal with scale on fig trees?

I just got a bunch off my mango tree. I do not use anything systemic if I plan on eating the fruit soon after spraying. I used soapy water and a scrub pad made for Teflon pans (lightly scrubbed) then sprayed with real light horticulture oil used on citrus trees. This works for a small trees. As far as insectides, someone else will have to give you their procedures.
