so my VdB started putting figs on around end of may, early june. since then they grew to size of about quarter. then they have not done much of anything. just hanging there. i did report about 3 weeks ago. are they shocked and will just stay that way and not ripe? or will they ripe? none of them dropped yet. this is first time i'm seeing figs so i'm not sure. can anyone let me know what the change of these things ripening?

i heard it takes about 75 days for it to ripe, maybe i'm being impatient...

Pete this is perfectly normal my petite negri put out figs late may that have not ripened yet either and wont for some time they do grow to certain size and remain that size for 2 months or more. I have noticed most figs take 80-85 days to ripen here in Toronto a few do ripen around the 75 day mark but not too many.

In fact my Drap D'or breba started forming 1st week of April and I am still waiting for it to ripen.

thanks for the information. i'll wait and see what happens.

my paradiso gene started putting figs out on mid june, then they stayed at tiny embryo and didn't do anything. about week ago, it started putting it out again. the old ones are still not doing anything, but the new embryo is starting to form into figs.

my kathleen's black is not doing anything at all. it looks like it has embryo and going to put out fig, but it's been like that since mid june.

VdB is only thing that's doing something to look forward to.

Have you pinched top growing tips?.
If not that is why,they do not grow fast.
Fig culture is doing best when in Symbioses with gardener.

found one of the fig dropped over night. was watering the trees this morning and saw one of the VdB on the top of the soil. didn't have time to check around to see if there were any track. not sure if rodent with bush tail did it or just dropped for whatever reason.

hope others don't drop.

thanks for the info. this is first time i'm growing any fruit and i'm anxious to see how it turns out.. trying to be patient, but not working too well.. lol
