My greenhouse project.

Here is the beginning stage of my greenhouse. I bought a Riga XL. It's very similar to Jason(7deuce) greenhouse. I will take pictures of the rest of the build. I was hoping to get started this weekend, but Saturday is going to be a rainout.
I wasn't planning on this project until next year. But the fig bug has hit me hard. So I bit the bullet and it's going up now.

Looks good Art.
What size is it? Are you going to have the heat hooked up for this winter?
Whether or not you put heat into it you should be able to get your trees off to an earlier start this coming Spring.

Great!  What size?  Heat?  Lights?  BTW, I doubt Pete (Bullet08) appreciates being bit.

It's 14' x 20' and I doubt I will have it heated this year. That will be my winter project this year. I am getting the ditches dug out this week for the water, electric, and my heating lines to my wood burner.

Art-
I just receivedy Riga XL. I was not planning much of a foundation, just a frame in trenches, and a gravel over dirt floor. Any advice on pros and cons of having a foundation?

Bill, As you already know the Riga XL is a high end greenhouse. I didn't want the foundation to be my weak spot. I live on a hill and get severe winds. I also thought about the foundation kit, but decided on a footer and block.
I think for the inside I am going to put pavers in the middle and stone on the sides.

Art,
You realy got the bug   The fig bug.  Good luck

Looks really nice Art. Thanks for sharing and the photos.

You will love your greenhouse, once completed. Thanks for the pix and keep us posted on progress.

That's going to be fantastic for you Art ! Great looking foundation - nice and solid . Great looking greenhouse too .
Love to see pictures of your building progress. I'm sure you're gonna love it. Good for you !!

Will this be only for figs? I might try some tropical fruit as well: mango, papaya, pitanga, pineapple.

Bill, I'm going to grow a few other things but it's mainly for my figs. My sons have their own ideas.
You are going to want to pull out your hair when you get started. This thing is a pain. Everything is in MM since it's German. Make sure you write down the conversion for all your parts. It will make it easier.
Since it has been raining hard all day I got started in my garage by installing the 4 vent windows and the two doors on each end. That's not an easy job.

Art,

Was it the Hubble telescope that had fuzzy pictures because someone forgot to convert metric to inches? Hope you have better luck. Grown anything you like, just not hothouse tomatoes.

Well I finally got the ball rolling. I had to wait on some more parts for the greenhouse. They sent the wrong ones.
The hard part is done, and I mean HARD. All the work was done by my dad and I. A big thanks to him. It was a major task with us two.
Tomorrow I will be done. I just have to attach the doors on both ends and install the automatic openers on the four windows and put a little silicone on the outside. Then I can pick at the minor things like the flooring and lights and heat.
I also picked a few figs before dark. Top left is my unknown Fuda Dark, top right is an unknown Mittica white fig, bottom left is Lyndhurst White and bottom right is Salce.
Salce and Fuda Dark were the best then my unknown Mittica white was third and last was Lyndhurst White.

Looks good Art, looks like a lot of hard work. Thanks for Dads! Just in time to get some of the late ripping fig in.

When is the open house or greenhouse? LOL

Looks good Art! I'm happy for you. You just gained a longer growing season.

I bet it was hot putting it up with that sun beating down plus the heat building inside the greenhouse.

Tony, You are right, it did get hot in there while we were working. My arms are sore. I can only imagine how my dad feels.

Bugs, One of these days, you and your wife need to stop up and take the tour.
I can't compete with your awesome garden/figs and flowers.

Looks great Art. That is a lot of HARD Work. I think for floor I place stone or pavers over bare ground. What are you planning?

Bill, I think I'm going to do the same. I may do what Jason did with pavers in the middle and decorative stone on the sides for drainage.

Looks great.  What did you fill the cement blocks with?

Are those Solexx panels, Art? If so, what's your source? I have a greenhouse in my near future and am trying to decide what to use on the walls. Right now, I am considering the Solexx sheeting.

Tom, I filled the blocks with cement where the anchors are. About every 3 ft. Other than that it's on a standard footer and block.

John, I think it's similar to solexx.

Looks great! Nice start and a lot of hard work. Thanks for sharing.
