My Hardy Chicago Breba

I missed this breba fig on tree and noticed it today as it started to swell and turn. All other figs are green and hard as a rock for now and hopefully around 3rd or 4th week of August they start to do same. Hopefully this one  will ripen so i can taste my first breba ever as i usually break them off or they fall do to our weather.
Romeo was on bird watch today as pictured.
Thumbnails i noticed lately in forum look stretched out but they work when clicked on.
Enjoy!

Nice dog...i wish my dog was like yours. Instead she destroyed 8 of my plants and she don't even know her name.

AFB,
OH no mine will destroy the plants also but is to short to reach them. I have on occasion caught him with a label in his mouth running around yard having fun. The labels he can just reach but i dont have many anymore i can tell what is what but in case of brain fart i have written on pots under the lip.
But he does chase birds and rabbits along with Luigi my other dog, Butchie the big dog does not care to chase the birds only the rabbits but they dont come in yard anymore since new fence was put up. Here is picture of Butch fon left (bigger dog)  and Luigi his face only on right.
I grew up with dogs and enjoy them.

Martin,

Got me one of them trees to ;-)

Mine took a nap most of this year so far, but is going great now!

Many, many thanks.

Hope this thread helps some of the newer members not sure when to pick ripe fig. Chicago Hardy today has what is called hangmans neck, it could be picked anytime BUT for max flavor if one could wait another day or two the flavor will be a treat at least on a main crop fig. Sometimes is hard as we dont want birds or animals eating them as at this stage there most vulnerable as the animals seem to know its ripe as well. I will pick maybe in a day or 2 and post final pictures of inside fruit.

That looks great you must have a great deal of will power not to pick it now, but I'm discovering what a real ripe fig should taste like. Thanks for the info

I picked the breba today. Its weight was 17 grams.
This my first breba to ripen over the years was ok but not as good as main crop. It reminded me of a late season fig on the wane as the moisture content was missing in action , the rich fig taste immediately came to my palate but in a milder way than a main crop fig does. The mild sweetness that this type brings me was about the same as main crop mild like i enjoy as i prefer a more rich fig taste than the sweetness. What this first experience gave me was a tease in a big way as i look forward to the main crop. Here are the pictures of it. Thunderstorms tonight so im glad i picked it or it would have wound up on the ground in a puddle of water in that area of rocks the tree sits on tomorrow morning.

Your pics may have answered my question before I even asked it... I know of a rather large fig growing here (Northeast Pa) that I know gets no winter protection.  I payed it a visit the other day and found ripe brebas!! Look and taste were almost identical to those you described...  In my humble opinion, it wasn't half bad for an outdoor, unprotected fig in the northeast... May work on a couple cuttings come winter...
