My huge mistake!!!!!!!!!

Ciao everyone.  Well its no surprise that recently I started selling fig trees out of my home ( Mediterranean Flora Garden ) is the name of the business. I want to write this for public and for a few of my customers who may be members on this forum.  I am so sorry to have mailed out non dormant fig plants during these brutal Winter months. I will no longer do this thanks to a member letting me know that the Fig they received had wilting of the leaves, due to the fact I watered it before shipping in this cold.  I literally cried when I saw the photo of the little fig with its wilted leaves. I am praying that these little fig trees will all grow for their new owners and homes.  They were all so beautiful and leafing out so nicely.  I just hope that they will bounce back when they are in their new homes. I have faith they will. I tried to package them nicely and even festive for this time of year, to only see my little fig babies cold and soo sad looking. I will chalk this up to learning lesson. I will no longer send them in mail with 18 degree weather any longer. I will only sell dormant and cuttings this time of year and leafed out will be in the spring and summer months. I took for granted they would have been warm in the buildings, but I sure forgot about the truck with which they delivered them not having heat.  I have learned this and frankly I was so upset I went to a neighbors house after getting this email from customer and drank about 5 glasses of homemade wine. Rest assured I will not let this happen again, I am not tooting my own horn, but anyone could always know they are getting the right variety and healthy plants from me. I only have been open officially after licensing for just about 2 months, so I am sorry, but will learn from these mistakes.  I am sure these fig plants will be okay, just what a shock. I am sooo sorry to all.  Ciao Ciao.

Hi Maggie dont feel so bad, these things happen unfortunately. I have ordered plants during the summer that were dead on arrival. Atleast your genuine and are appologizing for it even though its not really your fault. People should know when ordering non dormant plants this time of year that its a good possibility that it will suffer some shock. Im sure those plants will come back if any plant can survive its a fig. Wish you the best of luck with your business.

Magie
those things happen with the most reputable nurseries. I'm sure the customer who bought it understands that we can't control nature sometimes.
Maybe you should send some of that Italian wine to your customer, he could use some too i'm sure.

Ciao Nelson and Bass, thanks for the kind words.  I spoke with another customer in the South who received their figs today that were mailed the same day. They told me their figs were in very good shape!!!  I was so happy to hear this. It is definitely watering before shipping and shipping in this cold weather that caused the problems. I have learned and won't do that again. I am glad the ones that went to the south were well. Even though they are pretty cold down south, nothing like the teens and 20's we are having here and that made all the difference.  Weather related shipping.  Ciao

Maggie as i was reading your post i said to myself well a couple of drinks and she will feel better which you seemed to have had!
Mistakes along the way can be expected in time i bet you will look back and shrug it off perhaps. You ever cook the sauce to long cause of a nap or not paying attention and burn the bottom of the pan and ruin sauce because now it has a burnt taste i know i have more than i like to remember.
Most of us crawl before we walk !

Ciao Martin,  Yes, I have burnt the bottom of the sauce pot making Sauce a couple times. What horrible feeling and it ruins the whole pot!! Your right. Thanks so much. Got some good news from another customer this morning, their plants were in good shape also, very happy. This makes me feel better. My prayers go to the little fig who wasn't so fortunate. Hope he grows and shines for his owner this year and many more.  Ciao

Hi Maggie!

It's been awhile since I've been on this forum.  glad to know you are selling trees, do you sell cuttings?  I live in Ohio, we've talked" before about olive trees last year.  don't know if you remember.  anyway, I'm looking for cuttings to purchase, and am going to ask another member also.  Please reply.  Thanks.

Sorry New fignut, I had one batch left of cuttings yesturday and they are spoken for completely out of everything!!! Sorry, check back in 2010,  Thanks so much, I do remember talking olives with you.  I kept my olive trees but I'm not selling them at this time.  Ciao
