My Improved_not O'Rourke Celeste(pic)

This is the newest member of my little fig collection
(thanks Vinnie)

I just received it today, the packing was great, as you can see it made the journey from W.V. to Texas in style.

Congrats Cecil. Nice tree. So I presume you have 2 different sources of O'Rourke.

Hei, the Crankbrook gangsters are a common attraction in Bnaff(Rockies). I am surprise to see them in Crankbrook. In fact my buddy just came back from hunting there on sunday-- he got the elk & now I know why it is so easy, thus no more boasting from him as a great hunter. Thanks to you I busted his ego. ka-ka-ka. And they have grizzlies as coppers in Bnaff too. No kidding & a common sight. No wonder virtually crime free. Bnaff area is like god's gift to the world. It's natural beauty is awesome & inspirational. Its a trip worth going. Truthfully, we Canadians need the southern bruders to spend big money to revive the economy. I think 80% Canadian economy depends on USA. Thus we are great US supporters.

Hi Paully

This is Improved Celeste NOT O'Rourke!

And yes we have been to Bnaff, The Elk there were right in town grazing on the Homeowners lawn, didn't seem to be bothering the Homeowners none.......What a Beautiful place, and Lake Louise ain't shabby neither!

Cecil,
I bet that this IC fruit will look like mine. An excellent fig.

Good that your happy !
Im curious its probably been stated before but i dont follow the celeste and or LSU types .
Whats the difference between a IC and the O'rourke not type are they both strains of it and are they both LSU releases.
I get confused by the name "O'rourke not" name which seems like that says it not an O'rourke and if not what would it be.
Thanks in advance .

Hi George,

You are not going to get a bet out of me on that one!

Because Vinnie told me he got his IC not O'Rourke from you!

I am really proud of this little guy!

I think it will like it around here!

Martin,

From what I understand LSU released this one as Improved Celeste

Others might can tell us?

The O'Rourke is a different Tree altogether from what I understand

I know the O'Rourke leafs are a lot different!

Martin,

The "NOT"  part came when me (and other members) thought
that all Improved Celeste(s) from LSU are the newly
renamed/released O'Rourke fig.

Apparently, O'Rourke breed more than one IC (strain) and one
them (the one with the Brunswick type leaves) was named after him.

So right now there exits
an IC (most likely 1-3  strains) AND an O'R (1 unique strain).

So far nobody has indentified any commercial source
for a 100% proven true O'R.
Anybody that finds it, please let us know.

There Ya Go

Well said as usual George!

Ya Gorgi you are right that there is more than one strain of O'Rourke. I thought I read somewhere there is no such thing as LSU Improved but O'Rourke or that they are the same but different strains. This variant is confusing. I would be elated if I get to get one. My 3 cuttings just rotted away early this year. By the way, any fig friends out there  experienced LSU Golden Celeste dropping their figs heavily? And how's the taste? It is a good bearer.

Paully,

I must correct you.
There SHOULD only be ONE O'R fig.
But very possibly MORE than one IC fig.
Yes, it is very a confusing fig subject.

BTW, my young Golden Celeste (Champagne) was been
(modestly) productive this last 2 years; taste average(minus).

I bought my O' Rourke fig tree from Mr. Robins.  I do not know if my O'Rourk is 100% proven O'Rourk or not, but I have no reason to doubt Mr. Robins's fig trees.

Vern

That is where I got my O'Rourke from, I trust JR

I have a O'Rourke from James Robin

I have a Improved Celeste_not O'Rourke from Vinnie

Maybe that will clear up my original thread.

I bought an O'R from JR last fall. As I said before (in other
threads), the leaves do look just a like a regular Celeste.
At minimun, I will be having second strain of an IC.
However, JR keeps telling me to be 'patient' and hope/wish
that the leaf shape change as the plant matures;
time will tell..
