My Little Sal's (Gene's strain) Pic.

Here is my little Happy Sal's from Herman (thanks Herman)

The reason I say "happy" is if you look at the 3 o'clock position it has a little fig there. So it must like the heat here in East TX.
edit>>>the little fig dropped :-(
(PS I used the "manage attachments tool to post the pic.")

Hi Dan,

Herman did an airlayer on this one and A Marseilles B. VS for me
at the end of last year.

I am also learning what you say is true concerning on slow growing
one year old plants.
I have two from JR (Hollier & Smith) that are at a stand still.
Maybe they will snap out of it next year???.

Cecil -- my Capelas had less than 2 inches of growth for a year. I decided to repot with fresh compost top soil mix(40:40mix:20%Perlite) this spring and it took off 3 inches since then. I kept plant in location where plant is shaded after 1pm.

Dan -- my experience is that once I see some root mass in 32 oz cups, I repot them to 1 gal. From 1 gal, I would jump to 2 gal in a months time or less if I spot a single root heading out the 1 gallon size pot. They sure grow fast with fat roots too. My soil mixture  for 32 oz cup is 30% compost, 30% top soil & 40% perlite. For 1 & 2  gal size pot, my soil mix is 40% compost, 40% top soil & 20% perlite/bark mulchin approx proportion. I have not used any chemical fertilizer as the compost sure gives it a good boost. I will probably used a supportive diluted miracle grow fertilizing program come mid July till mid August. No more fertilising thereafter to harden off growth for winter. Key point I note is to watch for roots & up-grade to larger pot size quick and to Keep plants protected from direct sun after 12 noon. Since the weather have warmed up, I bury the bottom portion of  my 32oz, 1 gal & 2 gal pots in approx. 2" or 3" of dirt. I check them once a week & its amazing to find how fast the roots have grown out even in a weeks time.

Hi Paully

The plants (Hollier & Smith) I mentioned are in-ground so re potting is not possible, But I will take your advise on my potted plants.

Hope all is well up there in some of the most Beautiful Country we have ever been in.
Thanks much.
