My Maltese Falcon

I have gotten a Maltese Falcon along with a Maltese Beauty from gorgi recently. The Beauty is well on it's way but the Falcon was dragging behind. The Falcon put on root while sitting in it's shipping bag right on my desk. I put it in a 32 oz. clear cup with an inverted 16 oz cup acting as a green house. The roots grew and grew but no sign of green shoots. This morning as I checked both of them after returning from a week end away, to my surprise the Falcon has sprouted two shoots, very small, but still two shoots.

Thanks again gorgi

Falcon buds on 12/17/12

Well if that's not a good start to the week, I don't know what is!  Hope it stays strong for you!

Hi Gene

I have the same cuttings from George.  My Maltese Beauty is already 6 inches high, but in my case i made a mistake with my maltese falcon. The entire cutting sprouted roots so to gamble I cut it in half in an attempt to have 2 trees. While both are still rooting well, neither has pushed leaves. They look to still be in good health but I just hope that they have enough energy to flush some leaves.

My falcon pushed out crazy roots to start and in 4 weeks from sticking it in the pot it put out roots and filled up a 4 inch pot.  It only has a tiny shoot sitting for about 3 weeks now with a crack wanting to push another, the roots are still growing so I am hoping I will see something grow soon but the maltese beauty I thought for sure would die because the bottom inch started to rot, I cut it off and took some buds to graft and it put out a ton of roots, now it's growing two shoots, one is an inch and the other is less than a cm but it's growing it's leaves faster everyday.

I was thrilled yesterday to see the falcon pushing up a shoot from deep below the soil.  Tiny little green leaves!  The Beauty is already in a one gallon pot!  We all had two chances at this, and I think most were successful!

May I take a moment to thank Bill Gates for the spelling feature?

Congratulations on success with one of the most highly sought after figs in the world!  If you have roots you can use 1/2 tsp miracle grow per gallon of water to fertilize.  I highly recommend it.  I was late to the party because of my move but George's generosity extended to me, also.

The discoloration on some of the leaves is BTI.   I've started seeing fungus gnats.  :(
