My Martinenca Rimada

I thought I would share some photos of Martinenca Rimada which I won in the f4f  foundation auction, after receiving the tree I potted it up in some nice fox farm soil , I kept it in my garage for a few days so it could recoup from it's trip and finally brought it out today and put it in a semi shaded area and it is doing nicely,

Dave,

Congrats on the plant.

Questions about the FoxFarm.
Do you like it? How long have you been using it? How are your results?

I tried it over winter with the cuttings and it dries up to clay form at the top. Someone here warned me about this.
Plus, I had a real big problem with gnats. I can't say for sure the soil has anything to do with it but I never had such an infestation like this before.

I purchased three bags and might have used a bag and s half, I tossed the rest out.

What is your opinion?

Thanks Rafed

I use 2 different soils 1 being espoma and the other being fox farm , I started using the Espoma this year and don't like it at all I water my trees in the evening and the next day when I go to water again the soil is so dry that there is space between the dirt and the side of the bucket

The fox farm on the other hand I have been using on some of my better trees "little too expensive to use on all of them" I haven't had any problems with it , I mix in some very small bark chips just to keep it looser , when I go back to water the trees with the fox farm it's still moist I haven't noticed it getting hard on the top at all??

Actually the wife just reminded me that the first time I used fox farm was 2 years ago, I potted up  2 Raspberry Lattes in 5 gallon buckets and the soil is still loose on the top?

How long did it take for your fox farm to get hard on the top?

Dave,

In all fairness I was rooting in 16oz and 20oz cups.
Maybe the volume and the 1000w HPS light that was a few feet above them was causing it to clay?

It was drying up everyday. I had to keep misting it with a spray bottle.

Rafed,

I use their products in my herb boxes and from the label there is not "clay" in the mix.

Chris,

Did not say it comes with clay. Sorry for the confusion.
What I am trying to say it dries up to the point it clays at the top. Or cakes?

Let's just say for the sake of the argument it was drying up real bad for me and I connected what the one member told me to what I experienced. Hence using the word "clay".

Maybe the light I was using did affect it a bit? Don't know and won't know. I have my trusted Fertilome UPM now.

Dave your M.R. looks great!  Keep us posted when it starts to put on fruit.

Good luck with the new addition Dave. I can't wait to see pics of it when it starts producing.

Here are some photos of the Fox Farm vs Espoma after 24 hours the fox farm definitely wins as far as holding moisture better
