My name is Jim, and I'm a figaholic...

Hi all!  Although I joined in September and have posted here and there, this is my "new member intro."
My fig journey actually began in the mid 1990's with "the one that got away."  I saw some nice fig trees at a nursery on a "road trip" to visit a friend.  I had never seen them for sale at a nursery before, but I didn't have room in the car to get one.  When I finally got back to the nursery months later, they didn't have any :-(
Fast forward about 15 years -- I must have been talking about it, because my wife surprised me with a Brown Turkey tree for my birthday last March.  By July and August I was eating fresh figs right off the tree and I said to myself, "Self, I have GOT to get me more of these!!!!!"
Now here we are in December and I've got about 14 trees (some big, most very small) of about 9 different varieties, with some cuttings above the 'fridge, in the bathroom, in the basement, in the fridge...  Just think where I'd be if I had started 15 yrs ago!  I have a lot of lost time to make up for!

Welcome Jim. Btw if you said self and you answered back ...now we know you need a meeting. LOL

Anybody that has a spouse or significant other that helps feed your addiction.  Well, need I say it.  They are a keeper.  What a great b-day present.

welcome, its an addiction.

cant say my wife supports, or is against (anymore) my plant addiction in general. but figs have become such a part of it i ripped out my blackberry patch and yellow raspberry patch to make room for some more trees. she used to fight me. she even drug a 5 1/2 foot tall meyer lemon out of the house and put it on the side walk during a ice storm. i was broken harted to say the least when i got back from work hours later to find my tree coverd with inches of ice. her cat kept flinging dirt on the floor she said. no problems now. had to wareher down for a few years

Welcome Jim, this is an excellent forum, very informative and great people. Your wife is welcome as well she sounds like she may be one of us anyway

Hi Jim... I'm glad you have the courage to admit that you have an addiction.. we welcome you here ;)

Nice to meet you Jim - how about some pictures of those trees?  I know you have'em!!

Welcome Jim, us figaholics are her to support each other! For good or bad! Depending on how you want to view the addiction.
Sometimes I put myself and family in a financial pinch with my obsession. I just tell my family and myself that when we are eating all the wonderful figs that no one will be complaining. Glad to have ya!

Welcome Jim - we all have that "figaholic gene" here !!

welcome to the forum. just like hangover, only cure is to have more figs.

Welcome from me too!  Here is why I didn't post yesterday!  Looking for land to expand our vineyard and now 60+ fig varieties, plus a few other things we love.  The land needs to have a 2800+ sq ft house on it too, and enough room for a chicken coop and .....so the search goes on!

I hope you have acreage, because you will need it!  Fig trees grow large and take up room, unless you keep them trimmed, and learn to graft a few varieties onto one tree.

Enjoy your time here!
