My new greenhouse

Got my new green house from Amazon on Monday.  12x7x7.  I put the frame together on Tuesday, which took about an hour.  Last night, I put all my trees within the frame, then my wife helped me put the cover over it.

I didn't anchor it down right away.  Was going to get some corkscrew stakes today.  I figured it would be okay one night... wrong..

I went to work for a couple of hours and when I came home, I found it upside down in the neighbors yard.  The wind picked it straight up and tossed it over the fence.  I didn't take a picture of the aftermath, but here's what it looked like for about an hour.

Fortunately, it didn't touch any of the trees inside during it's exodus.  I'll be putting it back up tonight or tomorrow.  Hopefully it won't freeze tonight here.

Sucks to hear! It's suppost to get cold tonight. I'm heading to the deer ranch west of San Antonio tonight and it's going to be freezing temps and icy conditions. Good luck with the green house.

Once I got it tied down, haven't had any more problems with it blowing away. I have a 250w red heat lamp in it on a timer that turns on for 15 minutes every hour when the temps drops below freezing.

I went away for a 4 day vacation over thanksgiving.  Was supposed to be around 30F to 32F for the first few nights, but the last day was about 68 high and 47 low.  I left the heat lamp off. and the door and vents closed.  When I got back, most of the trees didn't look very happy.

Is this freeze damage or heat damage?  Or is this sometimes normal when trees go dormant.  I expected leaves to just turn yellow and fall off.

Dallas, I have one similar and when the sun is shining and the temps in the mid sixties it can easily get to over 100 degrees inside. I have a remote temp sensor inside  and outside mine to keeps tabs on whats going on. I use a small heater with thermostat for freezing weather. You may have fried those plants.

Well.. let's hope it's only leaf damage that didn't hurt the trees, since they are going dormant anyway.  I'm sure it'll be another roller coaster summer here in North Texas!

Gene, What do you do when you have a warm day?  Open the green house doors and windows?  or pull the cover completely off?

hmm.. I may be able to detach one side and pull it over tot he other side and tie it down.  Should be easy to pull back over when it gets too cold.

James, I bought one of those about 3 years ago.  Back then I was trying to protect my blueberries.  LIke you at first I didn't anchor it down.  An hour later the wind blew it over to the creek!  The temp inside can get pretty high.  The one I got had zipper windows but it was still hot inside.  I finally removed the cover and wrapped bird netting all around it.  I ate lots of blueberries that year!

James I just roll up the door and that usually does it. If the weather really get hot, like in the 80's then I open all the windows to. In the summer I don't use it for anything as it gets too hot even when open.

We're about to get some hard freezes here in North Texas.  Next Monday is forcasted to be 15F.  Will that 250w red heat lamp be enough to keep it above freezing inside?

I wouldn't bet on it. 15F plus a wind chill will drop them temps in there quite a bit. You should be ok in the daytime with some sunlight for extra warmth, but once the sun goes down the temps will drop quickly.
