It just got real on the James homestead! Have fun!

Only 1 side of it has tines?  I hope you're a good welder.  Do you have oxen or a tractor?

It is a 7 shank plow.  The first row has five shanks and the rear two.  It originally started as a five foot / five shank 3/2, but the previous owner extra square tube welded onto each side and added two shanks.  I checked the welds before I bough them, and they look to be professionally done.

I wish I had oxen to pull it with.  I've wanted an ox to pull a plow for a long time... ever since I saw the sign on the doors at Target which reads "Service Animals Only".  Can you imagine the look on everyone's face when I show up with my service animal?  I suppose this will have to remain a dream for the time being.

I have to wait a week before I can use it.  Unfortunately, I won't have time to even hook it up to the tractor before then.

I am really, really glad I don't have any problems for which that is the solution. I assume that you do, so, enjoy!!

May the weeds fall behind you meekly!

VERY Cool.

Please  post pics of the devastation and destruction when you're done with it.   (Before and after pics would be neat).

Wow!!! I spit out my drink when I saw the pic.

James you are gonna be one bad a$$ when that gets moving.

It looks like only half the length of the plow has tines.  All of them are on the camera's side of the center line.  Why is that?

Sadly, a search of the local Craigslist has yielded zero results for ox.  Perhaps a team of Clydesdale or the tractor.

Jon, the ground I grow in has been overworked for some years before I started planting trees on it.  In some spots I can only dig several inches before hitting the hardpan.  My plan is to break up the layers, then plant a N fixing cover crop.  Hopefully the roots of the cover crop will further break the soil apart, as well as, choke out the prairie weeds which are growing.  Then turn the cover crop under to add organic matter to the soil.

I won't get to use it until next week.  I'll find a way to strap my camera to it.

I have the same problem with hardpan only I'm going to hire a D-9 tracor and operator to rip my hillside...too much work for me!
