My Panache

Here's the first panache I have this season.   Grown in hot hot desert conditions.  I started two panaches in desert late last year.  One in ground and one in pot.  This one in pot started at the same time grew figs faster and bigger.   The one in ground has lots of figlets, but no mature figs.   

This fig tastes 100x better than my Strawberry Verte fig.  Strawberry Verte is too sweet and jammy and too many seeds.   This panache is smooth, sweet and more complex.

This is so nice to hear!  I have one Panache with a big heart that refused to die even though I did my best to fry it's little roots in that container!  It's fine now, and although no figs this year, I expect some next year!  It now has 8 new leaves!!  Looking forward to the figs!

I love Panache...one of my favorites but it does need a lot of heat to ripen.
My in-ground tree's fruit are still small and not near ripe.

Is the variety Panache, or Panachee?  I have cuttings from UCD that are Panachee, pronounced pan-a-SHEE.  It's a French word for variegated.  I'm interested in knowing if this is the same variety or if they are separate.

I think they are the same.  Interesting.  I didn't know it meant "variegated." The fruit certainly has a good name.  I always thought it meant panache in the traditional meaning we think of since the fruit certainly has style.  The fig looks like little hot air balloons.
