My Pastilere

Here is a picture of my Pastiliere.  This fig is my 3 one getting ripe on this tree.  I covered this one up becuase the birds are making dive bombs for all my black figs like VdB but leaving the red one alone....GO FIGURE!  The figs on this tree look different from my 2 Rouge de Bordeauxs that I got from Europe this year.

Looks good Dennis. Enjoy it.
Hopefully I will see ripe fruit on mine next year.

Dennis is yours from UcDavis i ask cause the taste on mine was memorable on a fully dead ripe fig that was pure mulberry tasting bliss .
Dont think i'll ever find another tree to have figs bring me that exact same taste .

Would like to hear your comments on your tree when you get the time.

Martin
You need one Illinois Everbearing mulbery plant to have that "pure mulberry tasting bliss" more often. I have one that is still young but the fruit taste is a bliss as you said.

My Pastiliere had one fig nubbin for the first time and only
developed to about marble size before aborting.  The odd
thing was it started off red and stayed red the whole time

It has been my experience with Pastiliere before burning it .

Figs that will abort will color and not swell .
Figs that will ripen many times not fully ripened will always swell.

The catch some or many will swell and color only to be not fully ripened on inside and that spot will be dry and just not to be eaten.

The particular Pastiliere i had was UcDavis one and i feel it needed some help to ripen the full crop as Herman had mentioned.
I will say a fully ripened this season was outstanding on my palate and best in yard.
It was a shame but its just a memory now.

Akram Mulberry to messy so i go 2 towns over and there is a street that has several large ones that i can eat and eat and eat off of, i posted picture of this in past.

Mine came from UCD.  Yesterday the fig turned jet black.  it should be ready to pick either today or tomorrow.  I covered it with coffee filters and hopefully it is stilll there.  I picked my first Barnisotte yesterday and placed it in the fridge due to a fight between me and a 10 pound snapping turtle.  That dude almost got my toe!  Scared the crap out of me!  Another reason to start looking down when you pick figs and always wear combat boots when outside tinkering around the garden.  The turtle ate all of my low hanging fruit from my Beall and VdB.  It was a good thing I had my floor spade with me.  After 4 wacks with all my might, needless to say, he is now in Turtleville.

Snapping turtle?.. Makes great soup!

yeah, so they say but I don't eat turtle.  I think the coons got him last night.  I threw him in the calvert basin at the creek.  He's not there now but I know he was dead....unless he put his body back together and walked out of 12 inches of water.

Dennis if that turtle put himself back together your in a world of trouble. ; )

Hey Martin, I got myself the Unknown Pasterilere a few weeks back. It's a pretty good size tree. This year,I'm going to grow it right beside my 2 Rouge de Bordeauxs and these 2 Pasterileres. Currently all 5 trees are chillin in my garage. All are trying to leaf out except the RdBs. I just brought them indoors last week. The others have been inside since November.

And, the turtles did not come back last year. Yea!!!!

Hey Dennis so yours are waking up  Nice .
Mine are in a deep deep snore until i awake them sometime in March weather permitting.
Rouge better perform and wow me this season cause i always have room to burn another.

Bad Frank

But if you do share cuttings...   Bad idea forget that :)

Hey Frank, my wife says she doesn't care whether I eye anything like that becos she can sign the cheques and I cannot. Plus she is so loving, she got me a greenhouse to hide myself in there. No kidding.
Anyone coming to my place to look for me goes to the backyard & she is considering getting another GH for the up coming season. It's truly a case of Honey, your space is the GH. Anyway she loves fresh figs and I don't mind doing it. So, if anyone has some yummielicious fig variants, you know where to contact me....

Frank- the trouble maker as usuall
You better watch out, your wife might visit the forum like couple of seasons ago :)

Navid.
