I haven't had a chance to post much lately, but here's several figs I've been able to pick recently.
First up is my Black Madera. It seems like it has had figs on it forever, but as yet, has not started ripening. Afraid it's going to run out of summer. It's about 6" taller now since this picture was taken.
Next, these are some figs given to us by our neighbor. They came from her father's tree about and hours drive from Dallas. Don't know what they were. Decent tasting. Some were not completely ripe. They made awesome jelly though. Any idea's on an ID?
White Texas Everbearing. Oh My!!! (as George Takie would say). Not super sweet, but flavor that was out of this world! This 2nd year tree produced 4 figs last year that was pretty darn good, but I wasn't prepared for this. Kind of a berry taste, to me. Could eat them all day. Very juicy/jammy texture.
KRMK Light. Another 2nd year tree, courtesy of Steve (omotm). Unimpressed last year. Open eye, taste okay. This year, was better, but didn't knock my socks off.
Bryant Dark. 1st year tree. It was okay.
Peter's Honey. Sweet, Okay. Birds liked them a lot. Hoping for better in the future.
Hollier. Oh, Hollier. This is a 2nd year tree. No figs last year. The ones this year were small and looked like they were going to drop. Suddenly one swelled last week and it was finally time to pick it today. Oh My God! This is another definite keeper. Yellow fig with very light creamy center. Tastes like rice pudding! By far the most interesting I've ever had. I almost got rid of this tree. I'm glad I kept it.
Any idea what this is? some kind of fungus? I saw some last year on the ground not near fig trees. Looked like some animal vomit to me. This year, I saw some on a fig leave. Kind of a chalky substance filled with soil. Also found some on a different tree nowhere near the first one.
Finally (OT), I found this growing in the front yard. There were 4 of them sprouting up. No idea what they are (not figs). I took the picture because the varigated leaves were cool.
Cheers,
James
