My Sal's corleone did not produce figs this year

I have a Sal's C. that was planted in-ground last year, I looks like is is taking this year off for producing any Figs (not one)


Is that normal or is it just my luck?

That is strange:Just make sure it has what it needs,so it doesn't die on you.
Mine is super healthy and with an average number of fruits,just enough fruits so I do not have to remove any myself.

It just hasn't grown much this year....It could/might be battling RKN.

I went out to the tree and pulled the mulch away and scratched around the roots close to the surface, no visible RKN....I did not dig very deep..

Let's hope you do not have to battle with the RKN.
But if you don't mind me asking since you know there's a threat of RKN why did you plant it in the ground in the first place? Not trying to knock on you my friend. Just would like to know.

Nonetheless, If you lose it and let's hope not then I got your back.

I will never have grown fig trees in containers...Maybe one, if it lives up to its hype then
 I might do that to it only.

But as they say around here, I'm getting too long in the tooth.....As in old. to mess with containerized fig trees.......Nothing wrong with doing it, it just ain't for me.

Cecil, if you want to neutralize the effect of RNK, I would suggest after summer to plant garlic cloves around fig trees inground or in pots. After 8 months I saw 90+ success rate, try it you'll like it, Sergio in NJ.
P.S. 4 to 6" apart.

We use and eat garlic around here, so will will certainly plant that garlic this winter!
We have already googled that!

Cecil, I planted Sal's Corleone last year, also. I wasn't expecting anything last year, and figure it would start it's second year. But, no it did not start producing at all this year, either. Although It is very healthy looking and growing very strongly. It is now about four feet high, and is not showing any signs of any FMV.


Of all the varieties we have planted, they have all started to produce there first year in the ground. Except for Ronde de Bourdeux, and Sal's Corleone. 

So, I'm guessing it simply may not always start producing it"s first year for all locations?????

We had over 30 figs off it last year, we were really looking forward to figs from it this year, not to be, maybe it is resting up for next year?

Tree is resting and getting the energy it lost last year.
30 fruits last year was way too much for a young tree and I bet they were nowhere near in taste and flavor to what this cultivar can be when adult.

It looks healthy to me! But it hasn't grown like it did last year,!

I plan on it having some garlic for company this Fall/Winter

Hi Dan, I could not believe my eyes when I checked my potted plants, and the inground plants, they are invigorated and loaded with figs, and the solution seems to be very cheap. I lost a lot of wood and figs in the past, to say nothing about time and labor. Keep up the good work Dan, Sergio in NJ.
