Ok so this weekend I went to visit my uncle who lives near me, went to the basement to check out his fig tree and it had already broken dormancy and pushing out brebas. Its a portuguese fig not sure what variety though, this was a shoot taken from his bosses tree wich is 9ft tall  in his office and produces figs every year indoors. This plant is 5 years old and first time producing figs since it was indoors for the last 4 years my uncle bought a house this year and put the plant outdoors for the first time within a month of being outside it had over 30 main crop figs wich never got to mature unfortunately. A co-worker of his also has a plant that was taken around the same time my uncle got his says the figs are redish and very big hopefully this year I can get a shoot from him I have been asking for 3 years now and no luck.

Well, the fig plant in the 3rd picture has 5 branches and the uncle will probably not notice if the nephew goes into the basement with a small cutter and leaves 4 branches on the plant. It is not like cousin going and making a mess that was so easily noticed.

Lol Akram don't be giving me any Idea's or else it might just happen. I think thats the only way I will ever get a shoot personally.

I used to teach ethics in spare times when there were spare times before getting into figs. Figs keep me busy like the folks who keep flocks of pigeons as a hobby.

Offer to help prune tree via air layering to make him more plants especially as a standby. I could see at least 2 air layers be done. To open the tree up is a good idea too. Judging from the intervals of the nodes, the tree needs to be repot. It is definitely too root bound after 5 years & in dire need of fresh potting mix. Since it had leafed out, your uncle can up-pot to a larger pot. It will only be better for the tree & root prune tree for next season(2011).

Paully & Akram the story gets better this weekend when I was there I told him you have to get rid of some of these shoots to give the main trunk more vigor, ofcourse I said that with the intent to keep one or two you know that son-a-ma-bishh ask me to pot up the two shoots and didn't even offer me one since I had asked like 20 times.

Second thing that plant has been in the same pot for 5 years,  and yes it gets better pot has no drain holes how its survived this long is a miracle.

hahaha good one Tim lol he is definately a tight A$$ I know hes not doing it deliberately thats just how he was brought up unfortunately. I will get a shoot from his this year guaranteed wether he likes it or not.

After all, He is your uncle. Flesh and blood. Do you want to do this?

My advise,
The next time you pay him a visit put a small clipper in your pocket.
When the oppertunity's presents its self you snip one or two maybe three and he'll never know what hit him. LOL

If he wants you to pot up the cuttings, go for it.  Take the cuttings, cut yourself a couple of 3-node/4-node cuttings for yourself and root/pot the remainder.  Consider it "just payment" for you efforts to provide him more plants.

Jason it was Shoots theres quite a few, I pulled two out and he asked me to pot them both up for him to keep. Unless hes just doing it on purpose to see how long it will be until I tell him how I really feel. Wouldnt be the first time he does that and then just laughs.

Ok this is weird, he just passed by and dropped of a small container with a shoot said I forgot to take it on sunday hmmm Boy do I feel stupid now.

Hi Nelson,
what ever ya do dont go cutting any limbs off his fig plants, reason being i only have about 15 or so some small some large in pots and if someone was to snatch just one limb off any of them i would know ues indeed!
Most of us fig nuts stare at our trees so much we go to bed thinking about them and even have dreams !

On another note sorry to here about CHAMP its hard i know i ve had dogs since i was 14 and since then never went more than 2 weeks when one died before i adopted another.
Can never replace each one but a new one sure does bring fond memories of the one before and creates new ones and also brings a new joy once again.
I have 3 as my wife also enjoys them 3 is plenty though and like yours i remeber you stateing last season there darn good fig watchers.

I hope you didn't take me seriously about my advise to nelson, I was only having fun with him and I think he caught on the game and went along.
We need some humor with todays troubling times.

I don't advocate or condone these type of behaviors and I surely would be upset if someone came and took something from me. There would be some real @$$ kicking if it ever happens.
Unless I am present my wife or my parents don't give anything away to anyone. That is to be done by me.

And I agree with your comment, I count all my figs when I return home from every trip.

With that in mind someday probably not in our time on these forums one might be able to see ones expressions to get a better feel for his words in type but im glad it wont be in my time i look scary naked from the chest up and pipe in mouth at the keyboard !

Martin I agree with you 100% even if someone changed all the tags on every Fig plant I have around 25 in my office I would still know exactly wich one is what because I admire them all on a daily basis and would notice even a leaf missing let a lone a limb and I know he is the same way. Sometimes its worth to wait I guess, I wouldnt want anyone taking my shoots without permition so its a two way street. Hopefully this shoot does not die it only had two roots when I pulled it off the mother plant on sunday one was pretty long though like 5 inches.

Akram fortunately the rest of the family are decent people theres just two or three relatives on my dads side that like to play games and no other portuguese relatives have fig trees here that I know of.
