My Unknown

Here is my unknown thats  6 or 7 season old i forget now. The hole is rather large not good for rain or bugs on this fig i say this fig for i get what seems like several shape figs one more round liek this then a more oblong one i think thats the right word. Anyways this tree always ripens its figs last for me and leaves me with half its crop still trying to ripen when our cold weather hits unlike my others but i keep it still maybe 1 day i destroy for a better fig plant who knows. I should be eating figs now but nothing yet due to weather so i took picture of this fig all by itself getting ripe on tree ahead of others which are still green. Still a good week away on this 1 at least.

If that fig tastes half as it good as it looks oh my my my IT'S A keeper

Martin,
If this fig's taste is really good (good fig flavor vs just sweet), don't destroy it! Send it my way! 8-)
Sue

Looks like a very nice productive fig to me.
Sometimes fig names may not be that important.
Just enjoy it.

Sue,
thats the problem as i enjoy rich fig taste, this one is sweet melt in your mouth type as its watery. It's thirst for water is more than my other container fig plants as its always the one that needs it first. Several years back it gave me a wonderful taste of melon but that taste seemed to disappear. Largest last year was 4.55 ounce but most figs on tree are smaller, here is picture from last season of a large oblong from tree and another from tree showing inside.

Martin,

Maybe it needs more heat units to develop the rich flavor you once tasted. Maybe the year it was good was warmer than usual? Might be worth a try in a warmer climate, cuttings at least if not the dormant tree if you decide to get rid of it. Does anyone else have this tree fruiting in a warmer climate? How is it?

(edit) Another thought, with such a large eye I wonder if caprification would increase its flavor. We have the wasp here in SoCal.

Sue

Cecil has a plant but he is having grasshopper problem with it , he is not sure if it will make it he is in Texas,   i sent also to
West Virginia  - no report back of figs yet
Mississippi, Jackson - no report of figs back yet
Missouri, Blackburn  - no report of figs yet
New Jersey,           - no report of figs yet
Georgia                  - no report of figs yet
Canada,                - no report of figs yet
New Jersey            - no report of figs yet
Austria                 - no report of figs yet

i dont recall if that year was unusually warm as i really did not keep notes until recently and went by my lousy memory as to how tree's did in productoin but taste i always can remember as well as all my tree names just by looking at them. Yes your right about the heat units that it needs.

these folks i hope to hear from perhaps next year as they recieved it only last September and October of 2008.

I can sent scion your way if you like when tree is dormant just give me a reminder cause im forgetful.   ; )
