Update: 2nd beauty: 100 grams!

this is the first fruit of this 23 year old tree!

I am in process of taking many airlayers and will be trimming this tree down to its stump to re-shape it. So there will be tons of cuttings to share.
If you like what you see, let me know. I will try starting some green cuttings also, so there will be some rooted cuttings later  on.

As to the taste.. It is so good that I cannot describe with words.

Anyone guess what this fig is?CIMG0164.JPG CIMG0163.JPG CIMG0166.JPG CIMG0157.JPG CIMG0158.JPG CIMG0159.JPG  CIMG0165.JPG CIMG0161.JPG CIMG0162.JPG

can someone help me deleting the duplicate picture???

Grasa,

Use the 'Full Editor' when revising your post and you'll see the 'delete' button beside the pics you want to remove.
Nice looking fig by the way!

Grasa,
Congrats on the fig! They look great!
Unfortunately, I cannot view the photos. After I click, I only see a spinning wheel trying to load the image but nothing happens.
May I try some cuttings?

What?  No cut open view?    :)

Sign me up!

Grasa,
This is the first time you ever got fruit out of this tree?

first time to bear fruit in 23 years???

Grassa,

I'm interested. Especially with it having a history of being outside in Seattle, Wa.

me too please!

i would love some as well

It is the first time I took pictures of these amazing fruits.

This tree was planted over my son's placenta. He was born at a birth clinic. I thought would be nice to have a tree on top of it. Anyway, this tree was moved here from our rental house, when it was 7 years old. It used to produce a large breba crop. But it has been horrifically pruned over the years and turned out in a bad producing tree. Last year, I decided to do something to repair the bad pruning and started to learn more..like this is not the only variety of figs and all of you here have really inspired me. I read so much that I feel I should be able to save some of the larger trunks by airlayering them.   As I monitor the tree closer, I noticed bad scars from poor pruning and it is way too large.

I think it will be a few years  to put it the way I think it should be. Also it is planted between 2 houses and does not get the proper sun light it deserves.

I am so happy with my year old trees I got from Richard Watts, that I think it will be nice to have little started trees to send off comes next spring. So I am putting lots of cuttings in the ground and some will be ready to travel when dormant.

I would love to have some cuttings when the time comes.  And, like you, I thought there was only one type of fig until last year.  What I surprise it was to find out there are hundreds!  =)

Grasa congratulations on finally getting figs !! I'd love to have cuttings also , when the time comes . Thanks so much for posting pics. .

That's amazing I am also interested in some cuttings when the time is right

Wow, nice! Any fig that is ripe in Aug in the PNW has a chance to ripen well here too. I'd love to try some cuttings if there are enough to go around.

Grasa, Nice story and wonder full figs! If I could I would volunteer for one cutting!
Cheers
Francisco

I'm in.
Let us know when you're ready to make a list of recipients.
Images from last year's Adriatic in and on you car are still vivid.
I didn't lose a single cutting that I got from you!

btw any thought this could b a beale? i have no experience with beale, but purple out amber in

Grasa, those look great. If you have extras scone during the winter months I wouldn't mind trying it. I bet it growing there it makes good rootstock for your grafting. How have your grafting projects faired so far?

Only few varieties are sold in our local nurseries. the most commonly sold that looks like mine are the Brown Turkey/or Vern BT and Celeste- Since I never had another VBT, BT or Celeste to compare, so it is unknown. Its baby leaves look like brunswick, long fingers, but older leaves are all sorts of shapes.  If my tree is a BT, I don't know what the fuss is about the bad reputation - these figs are amazingly delicious - a couple more almost ripe today - one almost 2x bigger than the one I picked yesterday.

Nice looking fig Grasa........Please do add me to your list when it come to posting.
I will pay P&P.
many thanks

Anyone with experience growing Beall can chime in? This is Beall no??! Not BT. I'd love to try it!

update with more pictures on first post. What a beauty. hope you enjoy looking at the pictures.

As Per Durio Nursery

" Beall - This cultivar was found by W. A. Beall as a chance seedling in California during the 1920's.  It has proven to be a good producer of both a breba crop and a main crop.  The tree itself is vigorous with a somewhat open growth habit.  The skin is dark brown to purplish black in color and the flesh is amber.  The large figs are fairly rich with good, sweet flavor and quality.  Well adapted for use along the West Coast and in the South.  The breba fruit are pyriform with prominent necks while the main crop fruit are oblate to pyriform with short, thick necks.  The leaf has a cordate base, 5 lobes, narrow sinuses and crenate margins."

And also Just Fruits and Exotics has an image on their site.

Maybe close up of the leaves would help. Sounds awesome whatever it is.

Grasa...very nice fig tree and a nice story to go with it...it was a long wait for those figs, but it sounds like it was worth it...best of luck.
