This is my unknown fig tree that i purchased last spring at a local garden store. It produces green figs with a very sweet taste. Last year i had only brebas to taste, main was too late. Doesn't look like it, but it's definately a slow grower. Only a few inches per season. You can see the bigger brebas (about 10) and the new main crop.The main kept coming and coming. Yesterday i pinched all new figlets smaller than a pee...i guess the tree will need enough energy to ripen these ones. I was thinking the leaves (and your description of the fruit) remind me of JH Adriatic. One thing that seems really distinctive is the light-gray color of the bark __________________ Steve MD zone 7a

Soni, schaplin, Art and Steve, thanks for your nice words! I have no clue what variety it could be, but the main thing is, it is a true keeper for me. Btw: Thank you to my friend Phil from northern Ohio (peak42),for explaining a non native english speaking kraut the word "keeper". :-) Now i can use it myself! ;-) Very distinctive is, like Steve mentioned right, the very light grey stem. Also the very little lobed leaves, which stay kind of small compared to other figtrees. They appear to be dark green, leathery thick, and shiny... No other variety i own comes close to that. I think not to know exactly every tree you own can make it even more exciting. __________________ Hi from Germany! (Zone 7b) Christian

Christian - you've probably considered this before it seems like it be worth going back to the garden shop you got it from and ask them what they know about the variety. Maybe they sourced it from a larger nursery and you could contact them as well to find out what type of variety it is. It definitely does look like a "keeper"! __________________ Steve MD zone 7a

PhilaGardener, no it's not painted. Steve, i did ask them about the possible variety a couple of month after i purchased it. But the answer was, that they didn't even know a fig tree could have different varieties... ;-) __________________ Hi from Germany! (Zone 7b) Christian

Joe, thank you very much! Pako, wenn i googled some Kadota leaves and searched in the f4f database, they are almost to much lobed... 3 lobes is maximum on my workhorse, some leaves have no lobes at all. Hello Christian, I wished all my trees were as nice, robust and healthy as the one you showing now. Congratulations ! This a 'MODEL' fig.. no matter the variety It will be certainly be very good! and if it's not you could try a black graft on one side .. and a white on the other . Francisco

I hope in the next week or two... Also had no luck with the brebas, only a hand full. Damatie is still young and had some problems in the spring but time will tell. Peters Honey has those heart shaped leaves. PH can produce tennis ball sized yellow to golden yellow honey tasting fruit. Not sure though since I got rid of mine a while back, otherwise I would have compared. Just a guess. OT, how is your Bayenfiege Violetta doing?

Rafed, nice to talk to you again. Thanks to you guys i think we could determine it between a Kadota and Peter's Honey. OT: You mean my Violettas ;-) Brebas this spring all fell off, but it was only a handful anyway. Maincrop is now at the size of a cherry...we will see if i get it to ripen... I put 2 Bayernfigs in ground, one at my south facing wall in my backyard, and one at the wall at my grandma's house. My girls mom got one as a present for her new greenhouse which grew from about 1ft hight to about 5ft in 3 month! One i kept a a little tree in a pot. __________________ Hi from Germany! Hi Lilly, I used a organic berry fertilizer from "Neudorf" about 2 month ago. Mix a little cup into the top of the soil. It has a high potash level. Every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks i feed with a liquid fertilzer for geraniums from "Algoflash" even with higher potash and lower nitrogen... ...but i am affraid the leaves are that green because of the variety and not from my special care! ;-) __________________ Hi from Germany! Here two pictures of a ripe breba - mildly sweet, juicy with a nice seed crunch (i am not the best to descripe the taste of figs but i tried ;-) ) Had a couple of them who looked pretty ripe but they weren't...maybe the lack of sun in june. One dropped before full ripeness. But the last two were pretty good. Now the brebas are gone, i have high hopes in the maincrop. I am curious if i can get them to ripen. So guys, with the open fruit... any suggestions if it looks more like a Kadota or a Peter's Honey? Hello Christian Nice brebas ! Had a voluminous breba, ripening very early and also showing that nice violet/purple rim in between flesh and pulp. Being an early fruit it could do reasonably well over there..facing south and near some light and/or heat reflective surface.. What you think ?.. could get you 3 or 4 cuttings in season cheers Francisco

Christian, For a good one, there is always a bit of space and this is not any fig! and we are in a region where figs enjoy -- total liberdade .. With correct treatment and that good diet it easily goes above 200 grams. The cost is the same - nada -! There is always the possibility of a relative, a friend...someone you could bring to the forum. May be you could start a couple of grafts ?! so space not greatly important. Keep this in mind..February is the month for me to get 5 or 6 sticks. cheers Francisco
