From a 2013 cutting...
Taste? It's all true what has already been said. Top tier fig.

I have 3 Black Ischia and I don't think any of them are the real deal:)   Looks great Frank.

I just now ate my second ever true Black Ischia (thank you again, kind donor). It's wonderful taste is still on my lips. I had the first one a few days ago. These are plants just started from cuttings this last last fall. I'm surprised fruit on trees less than a year old tastes this good! The real UCD Black Ischia lives up to it's reputation!

I'm sad thinking I wasted two years thinking I had BI when I didn't.

It's a heavily FMV infested, gnarled variety, but in spite of that, it just made the 'keeper' list based on its taste!

Yeah, the virus sucks but can't completely keep a good fig down.
The UCD cutting grew a miraculous 3 feet in its first year in a SIP container.
I put it in the ground in early Spring, it made 3 or 4 figs but  hasn't grown another inch.
I am worried that that because of the virus and lack of cold hardiness, it will die down to the ground in the winter.

I was given 3 nice cuttings. They were long and I cut them in half. I got 5 to grow. What's interesting is the ones that took off fast, continued to grow fast - though none grew 3 feet! The slower ones have always lagged far behind. They are all in 5 gallon pots now, but these puppies taste so good, I intend to up pot the strongest growers into 15 gal pots later this year.

I never get frost here, so they should be OK. Hope yours makes it through the winter OK.

This is one of the best figs I've ever tasted.

This is the only fig that I want more then any in my signature.  I've been trying to find  ucd black ischia. I never made the cut when ordering it from ucd. My black ischia AD looks like vdb. It looks real nice Frank.

Frank: Nice tree and tasty figs. Can you please post the leaf shapes of your tree? Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam

Frank,
Looks good. And your great season continues. Water and sunshine only?

Frank, looks good, glad they are top tier and I do not think any of mine are the real deal, time will tell.

My congrats; I simply gave up on the Black Ischia fig.

Frank, they look really nice. I have two from 2012 cuttings and both of them are about two feet tall and refuse to put on a another new leaf after the initial leaves this spring. I did have two to ripen but they taste was just not there yet.

Really enjoy your posts Frank...the figs look really great

Black Ischia AD purchased from Jon is the one that I wasted two years growing only to find out it is indeed more of a VdB. A nice enough fig, but not the real thing and not what I paid for. I'm not sure why Jon still sells that as BI since it's not and he should know better. The coloration is different, the leaves are different, and the growth habit is different...

This is my Black Ischia from UCD.  It is a 4 year old tree and it is a very slow grower.  Heavily infected with FMV.  This year the figs are AWESOME!
